On3 revealed its top 10 returning quarterbacks on Monday, with South Carolina’s Spencer Rattler coming in at No. 5 in the soon-to-be-released On3 Impact 300.

The On3 Impact 300 ranks the best players in college football heading into the 2022 season, with a full release coming in the next few weeks.

The 6-foot-1, 200-pound Rattler ranked behind Alabama’s Bryce Young, Ohio State’s CJ Stroud, USC’s Caleb Williams and Texas’ Quinn Ewers

The former Oklahoma quarterback had the fewest total yards in 2021 of all quarterbacks who started in the top-10 of the On3 Impact 300, however, his 3,031-yard season in 2020 factors into the new Gamecocks’ 2022 projection. The presumed starter for South Carolina, Rattler has an NIL value of $2 million. He was the No. 3 QB transfer this offseason behind Williams and Ewers.

A five-star recruit by 247Sports and Rivals, Rattler was ranked as the consensus No. 1 quarterback in the class of 2019.

Hailing from Pinnacle High School in Phoenix, Arizona, Rattler threw for a state record 11,083 yards with 116 passing touchdowns.

Rattler announced his commitment to Oklahoma on June 27, 2017. In three seasons with the Sooners, Rattler completed 361 of 515 passes for 4,595 yards and 40 touchdowns with 12 interceptions.

After a frustrating 2021 campaign, Rattler entered the transfer portal on Nov. 29. Less than a month later, he announced that he would be transferring to South Carolina, alongside his OU teammate Austin Stogner.

Rattler joins South Carolina with three years of eligibility remaining, as he’s listed as a redshirt junior.

The Gamecocks finished 7-6 (3-5 SEC) in Shane Beamer’s first year as head coach in 2021.

Rattler will make his anticipated debut when South Carolina takes on Georgia State at Williams-Brice Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Rattler meets Dawn Staley

By Kendall Smith

Spencer Rattler has been in Columbia for a few months, but last week he finally had the chance to meet South Carolina women’s basketball national championship-winning coach, Dawn Staley.

In a tweet posted last Thursday, Rattler described Staley as “the goat,” writing that the National Coach of the Year recipient is the “true definition of a winner.”

Staley quoted the tweet, saying it was great to meet Rattler, calling him “handsome as ever.” The official account for the Gamecock women’s basketball team replied to the tweet too.
