Pitcher Bubba Day details his Big Orange decision with Volquest

Tennessee baseball continues to make moves on the recruiting trail, reeling in their sixth, top-100 commit in the 2027 Perfect Game rankings on Friday when right-handed hurler Bubba Day announced his intentions to play for the Vols.
For the Omaha, Neb. Native, the Tennessee coaching staff made the decision an easy one.
“It was easily my favorite coaching staff that I got to be around. It fit me,” Day told Volquest after his public announcement. “I know there’s other schools that have a different style of coaching and theirs (Tennessee) fit me the best. Just a constant recruitment. Just a constant relationship building and that was going on really pushed me to go to Tennessee.”

The 6-foot-4, 190-pound hurler is considered the No. 52 player in the class and No. 6 right-handed pitcher. He’s ranked as the top-player out of Nebraska, according to Perfect Game pic.twitter.com/FyEytFZYCE
Day was in town a few weeks ago as the Vols hosted East Tennessee State during his official visit weekend. The hurler chose the Vols over Virginia, Auburn and Florida State in the end.
“I’m so excited. You just see it on TV. The energy and the support he has for his guys. I can’t wait to get down there,” Day said of Tony Vitello. “I got two years left at high school, so I got to win myself a state championship here but I’m definitely pumped for it down there.”
There’s some two-way potential there, but the Vols are completely bought into his makeup on the mound. Day is a guy who relies on two versions of his fastball and has two more years of high school left to add velocity, where he currently sits at 91-93 miles per hour while topping out at 94 mph this summer.
“I’m definitely a four-seam, sinker guy. Definitely fastball but definitely the two different shapes, which has helped me out this summer,” Day said. “Just being able to run it in on righties or carry a fastball to the top of the zone to other hitters. So, I’d say those are kind of the two pitches that that really helped me out.”
The No. 52 overall player in the class and the sixth-ranked righty is excited about playing for Frank Anderson as well. Nebraska’s top-ranked prospect knows the value of learning from a guy who has been in the game as long as Anderson has.

“It’s been great. I mean, just the constant – getting to learn kind of what his thoughts are. Coach [Josh] Reynolds has also been great. He’s definitely been a part of the recruiting process as well, so both of those combined also made the decision a lot easier too.”
Tennessee’s 2027 class is stacked with six top-100 commits and eight pledges overall. The lowest ranked commit for the Vols in the Perfect Game rankings currently sits at No. 248. Day becomes the fifth-highest ranked commit of the class for the Vols.
“I definitely think it’s a scary team,” the future Vol said on his future teammates in the class. “I mean, I’ve played against some and played with some of those guys. I’m pumped. I don’t think there’s going to be a better team than us when we all kind of get there. I’m excited it’s going to be a dangerous team.”
Day will have the chance once again to play with current commit Brady Buenik (RHP), who committed two weeks ago. He’s played against fellow commits Max Hemenway and Blake Lundy over the years as well.
Tennessee’s class of 2027 current ranks third in the country.
