The Tennessee baseball team has once again climbed the national rankings this week following a sweep over the defending national champion LSU Tigers at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tony Vitello’s club boasts a 30-6 overall record thus far into the 2024 campaign with a 10-5 mark inside Southeastern Conference play. Despite being out-hit in the series by the Tigers, the Vols outscored LSU 17-8 en route to their first sweep of conference play and their fourth series win in-a-row.

The national polls reflect the improved play as Tennessee has been moved up by four of the five publications.

D1 Baseball, the polling service utilized by Volquest and what you see on ESPN broadcasts, was the only national publication that kept Tennessee at No. 4 this week. Texas A&M moved up to the top-spot with Arkansas sliding back to No. 2. Kentucky – Tennessee’s next opponent – moved up eight spots to No.3 in front of the Vols in fourth.

Oregon State remained at No. 5 in the poll while Clemson slid from No. 2 down to sixth. Duke remained in seventh, Florida State jumped up two spots to No. 8, East Carolina stayed put at No. 9 and Virginia moved up a slot to No. 10.

Tennessee did move up to No. 3 in the Perfect Game, USA Today and Baseball America polls. The Vols jumped up two spots in the Perfect Game ranking and one spot in the other three as Tennessee was previously tabbed at No. 4.

The Vols checked in at No. 2 in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association poll. The No. 2 ranking stands as the highest ranking for Tennessee this season.
