2023 East St. Louis (Ill.) High four-star offensive tackle Miles McVay is closing in on a commitment and announced on Twitter he is planning to announce his commitment on Aug. 11, his mother’s birthday.

The four-star made an official visit to Texas A&M last month that opened his eyes to the opportunities in College Station. The Aggies didn’t initially make his top twelve, but a late push from the staff got the Aggies back in the mix and with an additional push from former high school teammate Antonio Johnson, McVay decided to give Texas A&M a chance, and made the trip.

“Oh I had fun,” he told Aggie Scoop after the visit. “That was really my first time seeing it so it was getting the full experience all at one. A few of the things that really stood out to me was the new facilities that they’re about to build, Coach Addazio and actually talking to Coach Fisher for the first time. That was kind of my first time speaking to him besides on the phone here and there. So to actually see him in person and actually have conversations with him, it was fun.”

The 6-foot-6, 373 pounder had a long conversation with Fisher, but beyond the conversation, it was the actions of Fisher and the players that stuck out.

“He was really cool, I really had fun talking to him,” he said. We sat down and had a pretty long conversation. Of course, he talked about how he does his thing, how he coaches, what he brings to the table and how he works to push players. He takes really good care of them. You can tell the guys are happy and they want to be there. I mean that’s something you want to see as a player.”

He stated following the visit that he could look to return to College Station in September, but with a commitment date now set for August, he could look to make the trip down to College Station for the pool party at the end of the month, though a number of schools will be pushing to get the four-star on campus ahead of his decision.

Coming out of the visit, McVay stated that Texas A&M is now in his top five, with Alabama, Michigan State and Oregon as other schools standing out to him. He made visits to all four schools last month, using official visits on the Aggies, Spartans and Ducks. He made an unofficial visit to Tuscaloosa, and still currently plans to make an official visit to both Alabama and Florida in the fall. As it stands, the Crimson Tide hold a slight lead in his recruitment, per the On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine, with a 27.6% chance to land the No. 14 offensive tackle in the country.

McVay ranks as the No. 179 prospect and the No. 15 offensive tackle in the country per the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. The four-star has an On3 NIL Valuation of $11.3K. The On3 NIL Valuation is an index that looks to set the standard market value for both high school and college-level athletes. The NIL valuation does not act as a tracker of the value of NIL deals an athlete has completed to date. It rather signifies an athlete’s value at a certain moment in time.
