D.J. Grant Makes His Decision
“Yes sir,” Derrick Grant said when asked if he had committed to Texas. “My visit went good. I had a lot of fun.” Grant’s official visit in Austin came shortly after visiting OU and he made it known last week that the Longhorns and Sooners were sitting at the top of his list. Grant is from the Austin area and his decision hinged largely on comfort level. “I fit in with the players easier,” Grant said. “It was just easier for me to get along with some of their players.” One player that Grant knew from his high school days was his host, James Kirkendoll. “My host was James Kirkendoll,” Grant said. “He is a cool person. I’ve known him for awhile because I played basketball against him.” Now that Grant has made his decision, the biggest question shifts to which side of the ball he will be playing on. According to head coach Mack Brown, Grant will line up on offense and could see some early playing time. “He said that they were losing a lot at wide receiver and that they could really use me,” Grant said. “He said that there was a really, really good chance that I could come in and play as a freshman.”
