Jahdae Barron remaining with the Texas football program
Over the past week, one of the major storylines around college football involves players looking to utilize the transfer portal for personal leverage in the landscape of Name, Image, and Likeness. The Longhorns have been in the middle of that storyline, but they continued to receive good news on Tuesday. Junior defensive back Jahdae Barron, who was considering entering the portal, has decided not too and will remain a Longhorn, according to Inside Texas sources.

Players who wanted to enter the portal needed to submit their request with compliance before May 1 in order to be able to utilize the one-time transfer exception afforded by the NCAA and have immediate eligibility for the upcoming fall season. Compliance departments then had 48 hours if they received the request to process the application and place the player in the transfer portal.
Despite flirting with the idea of doing so, Barron’s name never appeared in the transfer portal. As a result, the Longhorns will have the services of a player thought to be one of the key pieces on the 2022 defense. Barron, who played in nine games in 2021 with two starts, has been a factor at both cornerback and as the STAR, or nickel, in defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski’s system.

A product of Connally High School in Pflugerville, Texas, just down the road from the University of Texas campus, Barron originally signed with Baylor in 2020 before receiving a release from his letter of intent and signing with the Texas Longhorns. He played in five games in 2020, including the Red River Shootout versus Oklahoma and in the Valero Alamo Bowl versus Colorado.
During the 2021 season, Barron recorded 18 tackles including one for loss, forced one fumble, and broke up three passes.
