Texas fans are accustomed to seeing two-way players on the recruiting radar, but those prospects are typically skill players. The most common are wide receivers who can play defensive back and vice versa. This cycle is different in that Texas is recruiting more two-way bigs than smaller two-way skill players. This makes evaluation fun but can complicate UT’s big board. With smaller athletes, you mostly see them prefer offense. When it comes to bigger players, they prefer defense. It boils down to glory and nobody receives less glory than offensive lineman — well, at least until the NFL comes calling. This is something the coaches will have to overcome to maximize options in this class. How Steve Sarkisian, Bo Davis, and Kyle Flood navigate O-line/D-line recruiting this cycle should be fascinating. Flood has numerous in-state options to choose from but the best traits reside with the players leaning towards playing defense in college.
