Why is Texas so bad at protecting leads?

Almost three years in there's a definite pattern to be observed in Steve Sarkisian's handling of Big 12 opponents. He's terrific at building a lead but will often struggle to hold onto it in the second half and Texas' win/loss record in a given year seems to hinge on whether they can hang on when the inevitable comeback occurs.
