A day after landing what’s thought of as the biggest linebacker commit in a long long time for USC in Talanoa Ili from Kahuku (HI), the Trojans gain another huge commitment in elite four-star New Jersey Edge Luke Wafle.

Wafle and his family made their second visit to USC this spring this past weekend. Although most thought he’d end up at either Ohio State or Penn State, and remain close to home, Wafle surprised many with his verbal pledge to the Trojans on Monday.

His father David Wafle shared his thoughts about what they’ve experienced and learned about USC the past two months.

“USC was a very special experience,” the elder Wafle said. “Coach Henny (Eric Henderson) and Coach (Shaun) Nua were great. Coach (D’Anton) Lynn, we had some really great meetings with those guys. To actually sit down and have a one-on-one with Coach (Lincoln) Riley was special.

“Spent a good amount of time talking to him about the program. There is a lot of energy around USC. Feel there is a lot of momentum. To go to practice inside The Coliseum and their football alumni there, there were 150 alumni and you could feel it. Things are happening at USC for sure.”

Top USC defensive line class in two decades?

After Wafle’s commitment, USC may have one more spot available for a defensive lineman. If they do still have room for one more, Kevin Ford from Duncanville (TX) is currently the only Edge/Defensiive Lineman scheduled to officially visit. Ford will visit June 20-22 and it’ll be his third USC visit since 2024.

Right now the USC defensive line class includes Wafle, Simote Katoanga, TomTom Topui, Braeden Jones, Jaimeon Winfield, Malik Brooks, Jake Johnson and Andrew Williams, That means the Trojans have five of the eight commits ranked among the top 200 overall players for 2026.

Wafle is ranked No. 52 overall, Katoanga No. 65, Winfield No. 95, Topui No. 138 and Jones No. 169.

We hope top learn later today if USC still plans to bring in KJ Ford for his official visit this weekend.
