Warren Roberson USC Official Visit

On April 4-Star cornerback Warren Roberson’s recruitment began to soar. That’s when he earned Power 5 offers from MissouriBoston CollegeLSUAlabamaNebraska and Florida State all extended offers to the fast-rising Texas defensive back. Those six joined more than a dozen other programs already involved his recruitment.

Since then Roberson’s added offers from Arkansas, USC, Florida, TCU, Oregon, Mississippi and Minnesota. Coach Donte Williams offered a school visit on May 13. Williams returned for the Red Oak Spring Game and invited him for an official visit.

WeAreSC visited Roberson at Red Oak on May 28. What we learned was much like with Garland (TX) DL Trey Wilson. USC offered relatively late but came on strong.

“We talk just about every day,” said Wilson.”I just Facetimed with Lincoln Riley yesterday. I really like Coach Donte, I really like talking to him, he seems like a real genuine dude and I like people who keep it real with me….and won’t sugarcoat a lot of things.”

Now it appears Roberson is ready to announce his school choice on Monday (8/22). We submitted a USC prediction on June 21.

We hit up Red Oak HS for the second time this Summer earlier this month and spoke to Roberson again.

Although he didn’t have a date set, his plan was to announce his school choice before the season begins August 26. The two schools at the top of his list are USC and Oklahoma St.

“I love the culture at USC first of all,” said Roberson. “I really like the coaches there, too. Lincoln Riley, Donte Williams and Coach (Alex) Grinch are really cool people. Then I feel I can blend with them and fit in their scheme.

Impact Of USC Official Visit

“The visit was big, because we got to see a lot of the other players they’re recruiting and the commits,” Roberson said. “I got to see if I could blend and play with them the next three to five years. We had a great time out there.

Warren said Zach Branch has been hitting him up and trying to get him to commit.

What The Decision Will Come Down To

“There are multiple reasons,” said Roberson. “At first I wanted to stay close to the house. USC is far from Dallas, but started looking at the bigger picture. I wrote down the pros and cons with all the schools and I’ll choose the one that’s best for me and my family.”

We asked Roberson what makes the school he’s choosing the best fit?

“There’s a lot that tie into that. First, the weather and it has a great atmosphere. Then how cool I am with my coaches and the players. There’s a lot of reasons.”

The Coach Donte Factor

“We’ve gotten closer since he first started recruiting me in the spring,” Roberson. said. “We talk almost every day and I talk to Lincoln Riley almost every other day. Me and Donte got real close after he offered me.”

The On3 Recruiting Prediction Machine (RPM) currently favors USC 96.4% to 2% for SMU.

SCOTT SCHRADER AND WARREN ROBERSON Q&A (6/26)

SS: You’d never been to USC or California before. What did you take away from your official visit and time in Los Angeles that will possibly help you with your school choice?

WR: “USC has a lot of stuff that I’m looking for that will help get me to the next level. They check off most of the boxes for me.”

SS: What are some of the boxes that you were looking to get checked?

WR: “First, I’m looking for a great relationship with the coaches. Also how the team bond is and just the vibe from everybody. My mom and my family can come watch me play, the weather is great, there’s great academics and everything ties together at USC.”

SS: There’s no doubt you all were entertained by USC last weekend, but what did you gain from a school and football program aspect?

WR: “With Lincoln Riley and Coach Donte, I have really good chemistry with them. A great relationship. And I feel that will affect a lot with my decision.”

SS: “What the highlight of the visit. A part of the experience that’ll stand out whether you end up at USC or not?

WR: “Probably having breakfast with Lincoln Riley. He sat at my table eating breakfast. But the whole trip was amazing really.”

SS: tell me about the importance of Coach Donte Williams with your recruitment?

WR: “Coach Donte is very important, because he’s the one who’ll be coaching me to advance to the next level. So, I feel Coach Donte will play a huge role in my recruitment.”

SS: based off how you guys interacted today (Texas State 7v7 Day 1), it looks like you guys have known each other for a while.

WR: “We kind of knew each other before the visit, but during the visit we got to chop it up and got to know each other real well.”

SS: Los Angeles a city you’d feel comfortable living based off what you experienced last weekend?

WR: “Absolutely, especially with me having a family member living about 20 minutes from the school.”

SS: If you were to choose USC, what would be some reasons?

WR: “Te chemistry I have with the coaches and I feel like they have a family vibe. They’re chill, but when it’s time to work, they work. I can’t even really explain it, it’s just a strong family bond and you just have to be there to experience it.”

SS: What did your mom think about USC?

WR: “She loved it. She thinks that’s the spot I can go.”

Roberson is the No. 468 overall prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 45 safety and the No. 80 junior in the state of Texas.

Warren Roberson has become one of the country’s top safeties

The Industry Comparison shows On3 is drastically higher on Roberson than the other three major recruiting services, though. In the most recent On300 rankings, he checked in as the No. 141 overall prospect, No. 11 safety and No. 28 Texas prospect.

His film has jumped off the page to On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings Charles Power, who raved about his skills in February.

“Warren Roberson is one of the top two-way players in Texas, in our opinion,” Power wrote. “He has one of the better combinations of top-end speed and ball skills we’ve seen in the 2023 cycle. Roberson plays receiver and corner for Red Oak. He accounted for 686 yards and six touchdowns on offense, while also nabbing four interceptions. Roberson shows top-end play speed and ran an 11.0 second 100-meter dash as a sophomore.”
