Drew Peterson’s hot streak continued into Monday morning as the Pac-12 announced the USC standout as the conference’s player of the week for his performance in wins against Oregon State and Oregon.

Drew Peterson put up a double-double in the double-overtime win against the Beavers on Thursday night. He finished with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Against Oregon, Peterson grabbed eight rebounds and scored 20 points, none more important than his late three-pointer that provided USC’s winning margin.

It’s Peterson’s second Player of the Week award this month. He previously won in large part due to his huge performance in a win over UCLA, where he scored 27 points and added 12 rebounds, five blocks and four assists.

Peterson started the month slowly, with three games of single-digit points. But in his last six, Peterson is averaging 18.8 points and seven rebounds. His season averages are 12.5 and 6.4.

Peterson and the Trojans will need to be at their best this week. USC hosts No. 2 Arizona on Tuesday night at Galen Center. The Trojans will host a sold-out crowd against the Wildcats. USC will then travel across town to battle UCLA. The Trojans will be looking for their sixth win in a row over the Bruins.

Last time against Arizona

USC hung tough on the road against Arizona the last time these two programs met. The Wildcats put together a lat run to pull away.

Arizona bothered USC’s shooters and especially Peterson. The Trojans shot just 34.3% from the floor for the game and Peterson made just one of 13 shots. He finished with five points in 34 minutes. USC hoisted 30 three-point attempts in that game, making just seven.

Isaiah Mobley was the only USC player to finish in double-figures scoring.

Arizona is coming off a disappointing road loss at Colorado. The Buffaloes outscored the Wildcats 47-26 over the final 20 minutes to post a convincing 79-63 win.

What’s at stake?

USC has a first-round bye in the Pac-12 Tournament locked up as a top-four seed. The Trojans right now are a solid 6-seed in the NCAA Tournament.

Wins against Oregon and UCLA to close the season and a strong run in the Pac-12 Tournament could have the Trojans climbing the seed lines despite a lackluster non-conference schedule.

USC has found some recent success against Arizona. After the Wildcats ran off an 11-1 record against the Trojans from 2011-2018, USC actually holds a 4-3 advantage over the past seven. But Arizona is looking to make it three wins in a row.
