Lake Oswego (Ore.) Lakeridge four-star tight end Joey Olsen is the longest tenured commitment in USC’s 2024 recruiting class. Olsen committed to the Trojans back in September of 2022 and has not wavered since.

Olsen’s high school has officially come to and end, so we will take a look at how his senior season played out and how his career shaped up.

In his senior season, Olsen reeled in 36 receptions, the most in one season of his four-year varsity career. On his 36 receptions, he racked up 650 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns. His 11 scores was also the most of any season of his at Lakeridge.

Olsen’s career numbers are extremely impressive, especially for a tight end.

In 36 games played, he hauled in 118 catches for 2,302 receiving yards and 31 touchdowns.

He averaged 19.5 yards per reception and 63.9 yards per game over his career. His sophomore-senior seasons all saw him go over 570+ yards and seven touchdowns. Also, in all four seasons, he had at least one receptions of 50+ yards.

In the most recent Industry Rankings, Olsen is ranked as the No. 281 overall prospect and No. 17 tight end. On3 ranks him slightly higher though at No. 224 overall and the No. 15 tight end.

Along with Olsen in the fold for USC is Hiram (Ga.) four-star tight end Walter Matthews.

With the duo, it gives USC the top tight end class in the 2024 cycle. The Trojans are the only team in the 2024 class with two top-15 ranked tight ends in the On300. Matthews ranks No. 12 in the On300 while Olsen sits at No. 15.

On3 Eval on Olsen

“We’ve been high on Joey Olsen the whole time. He continued to slide up a little bit within the tight end group on this release because he’s continued to add size. Early in his high school career, he was a big receiver who projected as tight end, but we’ve seen him make a physical progression over the last couple of months into having more of a tight end body type. He continues to add weight and moves around really well. He has the natural receiving skills and athleticism.” — Charles Power, On3 Director of Scouting and Rankings
