Musings with Arledge Solo Edition: Notre Dame All-American Luther Bradley

On this episode of Musings from Arledge Solo Edition, I preview the next installment of the greatest rivalry in college football by talking to Notre Dame legend Luther Bradley. Bradley was a four-year starter, two-time All American, and won two national championships at Notre Dame. He played at Notre Dame from 1973-1977, during which time USC went 3-2 against Notre Dame. The Trojans posted wins in 1974, ’75 and ’76, with Notre Dame’s national championship teams in 1973 and 1977 recording wins over USC. That 1977 edition came to be known by Notre Dame fans as “The Green Jersey Game.”

Bradley’s 17 interceptions as a member of the Fighting Irish is still a Notre Dame career record.  He was a first-round selection by the Detroit Lions in the 1978 NFL Draft, picked No. 11 overall. He played four years with the Lions, finishing with nine interceptions and a touchdown. Bradley also played for three USFL teams. He is the USFL’s all-time leader in interceptions, and he still holds the record for most interceptions in a professional football game with six.

He’s also a great guy and a good friend.

We talk about what makes USCNotre Dame special, some of our favorite and least favorite games in this rivalry, and Rudy. We walk about Ara Parseghian and what made him great. And, of course, we talk about this year’s game, complete with a game analysis and a prediction from each of us.
