Notes and takeaways

Left tackle Elijah Paige will be one to watch during pregame warmups. He suffered an injury during the game against Michigan State and missed games against Illinois and Michigan. He’s been ramping up for a return and that could come tonight. If he’s back, it’s likely that Tobias Raymond would slide back to his left guard spot. Riley said both Paige and O’Connor would need to battle for jobs when they get back healthy, but it would be shocking to see a fully healthy Paige on the sideline for any number of snaps.

It’s interesting that center Kilian O’Connor is now listed as questionable after not being listed on the availability report last week. It’d be surprising if he’s playing against Notre Dame but it does put into the realm of possibility that he’s back for USC’s next game at Nebraska after the bye week.

There are no surprises among the players listed as “out” and it’s clear USC took no risk in listing anybody who might play. Head coach Lincoln Riley ruled freshman defensive tackle Floyd Boucard out this week after he was injured against Michigan. Both running backs will miss significant time as Sanders is out for the season and Jordan is out 4-6 weeks.
