USC Trojans sweep Pac-12 Freshmen of the Week honors

USC’s Isaiah Collier and JuJu Watkins continued their impressive freshmen seasons last week and were rewarded for it on Monday, earning the Pac-12 Men’s and Women’s Freshmen of the Week Awards.

It’s the 14th time in 17 weeks this season Watkins has earned the award. In a road sweep of the Arizona schools, Watkins averaged 23 points per game, 10 rebounds per game, three assists per game, 1.5 steals per game and shot 41.5% from the field.

She scored 20 points and had eight rebounds in a 95-95, double-overtime win at Arizona. She followed that up with a 26-point, 12-rebound performance in a 70-55 win at Arizona State. That marked her sixth double-double of the season.

And according to the Pac-12, “Her 26-point performance put her at 751 on the year, which is the tenth-most points scored in a season in Pac-12 history.

Watkins and the Trojans earned a No. 2 seed in this week’s Pac-12 tournament. They will take on the winner of No. 7 Arizona against No. 10 Washington on Thursday, March 7 at 6 pm PT.

Collier won the award for the fourth time this season. He helped the Trojans to a split on the road against the Washington schools.

He averaged 27.5 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists and 1.5 steals in the two games, while hitting 62.2% from the floor and 50% from three. Collier now ranks No. 1 among freshmen in Pac-12 scoring and No. 5 nationally.

USC will close out the regular season with home games against Arizona State on March 7 and Arizona on March 9 before a game in the first round of the Pac-12 Tournament on Wednesday, March 13.
