Standout USC true freshman JuJu Watkins has been added to the watchlist for the Wade Trophy this week and was included on the midseason watchlist for the John Wooden Award earlier this month.

For the Wade Trophy, billed as the oldest and most prestigious national player of the year award in college women’s basketball, Watkins is one of four additions at the midseason point to a list that now includes just 20 of the best players in women’s college basketball. She’s also just one of two freshmen on the list, in addition to Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo.

She’s also now listed on the 2024 Wooden Award Midseason Top 25. And Watkins has also played her way onto the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Top 10 List. That award is given to the top shooting guard in the nation.

Watkins is currently the No. 2 scorer in the nation at 25.8 points per game and has already set a USC freshman record with six 30-point games this season. She’s a 10-time Pac-12 Freshman of the Week and leads the Trojans in both scoring and assists per game. She ranks second in rebounds, blocks and made three-pointers.

No USC Trojan has ever won the Wooden Award. Cheryl Miller is the only USC recipient of the Wade Trophy. Iowa’s Caitlin Clark won both last season.

Watkins has helped the Trojans maintain a national ranking throughout the season while playing in the toughest conference in the country. The next game for the No. 15 Trojans is a big one as they’ll travel to take on the No. 4 Stanford Cardinal on Friday, Feb. 2. Tip-off is at 7 pm and the game will air on Pac-12 Network.
