I'm hoping his physicality and toughness will compensate for his relative lack of true 5 height.
SHU won 21 games last year because of our strength at PG and center, the two most important positions in college hoops. Just don’t see that this year so we’ll have to see what Holloway does with this group.
What a wild ride. 15 players, whew. He’s definitely depth if he remains eligible IMO.

While I agree on the importance, many ways to get it done. The fact we had such a good defense but such a terrible offense also contributed to the fact we only went 10-10 in that BE and had just 1 quality win of the 21 despite the productivity at those spots.
We were so close to so much more (games vs. SJU + UCONN), yes, but not horseshoes.
We needed last year after the debacle of ‘24. 21 wins, 10-10, felt like a huge accomplishment. But the truth is we beat a lot of bad and middling teams (no problem with that). We were closer to a bad team than a good team last yr though. The BE should be much better and more parity this season. I don’t agree with Sha’s approach of going 10 deep, but he has lots of depth in his arsenal. His best year here he went 6 deep, not sure why he doesn’t go back to the approach that gave him the best results.
Center really a strength though? Both were excellent shot blockers and provided the last line of defense, which was obviously important. But we really didn’t get a lot of offense out of the position and Payne could not be relied upon even for stuff in close because of his hands. Hines was probably the best backup center in the league, but his stamina is also an issue.
I would probably characterize it as we were capable at the 2, 3 and 5. Deficient at the 4 and proficient at the 1 only because of Clark.
I agree that we’ll just have to see what shows up. Relying on guys in Key positions that haven’t produced at a major level yet
One factor no one is talking about is Fanta Kabba. Like most I did not think when he committed it was a major event. But I was told during the summer he surprised and was greatly improved.

They combined for 12.4 ppg 12rpg & 3.4 bpg. Both shot over 50% from the field and neither played more than 20mpg. Thats pretty impressive, no?
Competent/capable? Yes. Impressive? No.
My guess is if you took the 40mpg of every BE team combined center play, they would be somewhere in the middle with those stats..
Ehh I disagree. Our backup center is now playing for a team that played in the national championship and Payne would start on this year’s team.
But the discussion was about last years performance and production. Our combined center production was middle of the pack.
I would have initiialy said the same thing, But now I will be anxious to watch him.
Remember, big man usually take longer to develop.
Sight unseen Kabba feels like potential to be an Elijah Hutchins-Everett type player. Serviceable back up hopefully.

Godswell was injured most of the year. And the injury could still be lingering. That's why he wasn't asked back. That and his NIL ask which was 7 figures closed the door for his time at the Hall.

Fanta Kabba average 17 min last two seasons at lower level of ball, I see him as a 5-8 min player unless there are injuries that force him to play more.
No you don't understand. The guys on the message board who have never seen a guy play know best. you just tell them their height and one or two rate stats and they have it all figured out
I have no clue, if I saw ten bigs on the court, I would not know who he was. But lots of jrs play better than they did as sophs.
I agree with you and I hope so as well. Kids definitely take jumps, hopefully this is the guy. Doesn’t seem like he was hot transfer, but we know kids are often overlooked. If he can give us solid minutes great.

Ouch. I’m sure we would’ve taken him for a low NIL. Now he ends up at Incarnate Word (whatever happened there) and probably got next to nothing. Bad case of not knowing your value

I agree getting back to a season that had some excitement, ranked, a Top-50ish team, NCAAT hopes was sorely needed.
a kid like Godswill asking for a million dollars is him telling you he wants to leave without telling you he wants to leave. There is no planet where he & his agent truly think he can garner anywhere near that level of money. I love Sha, but imo not every kid left this team simply for more $.

Not necessarily. If he actually asked other teams for that million dollars, then it clearly has more to do with his own false assessment of his own value.
...and this is a kid who was clear about returning after his freshman year, when no one else was. Too bad, he showed some glimpses, but couldn't stay healthy.
