Pirates Look to Ride Momentum Against Princeton - Seton Hall University Athletics
The Seton Hall men's soccer team will look to build off its win to open BIG EAST play when they head down the turnpike to take on the Princeton Tigers.
SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall men's soccer team (3-2-2, 1-0-0 BE) will look to build off its win to open BIG EAST play when the team heads down the turnpike to take on the Princeton Tigers (5-1-1) on Tuesday, September 22.
Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
LAST TIME OUT
- After falling in heartbreaking fashion to the Penn Quakers, the Seton Hall men's soccer team hit the road to face the UConn Huskies in the opening match of BIG EAST play.
- Inside the first 15 minutes, the Pirates quickly found themselves with a 2-0 lead. It began with a bicycle kick goal by Sivert Ryssdalsnes, which was quickly followed by a near-post screamer by Nico Rubio. Despite holding the Huskies scoreless for over an hour of match time, UConn scored on a penalty kick to make it a 2-1 game with 29 minutes to play. The Pirates' defense held strong, however, shutting out the Huskies' offense over the remainder of the match to claim the win in the opening match of BIG EAST play.
- Princeton comes into the game with a 5-1-1 overall record.
- So far this season, the Tigers have beaten Portland, Bryant and UMass. Their lone draw came against Villanova, while the lone loss was to Rutgers.
- So far this season, Bardia Hormozi has been the dominant presence for Princeton's offense. In his 477 minutes played in 2026, the senior leads the team with four goals, three assists and 33 shots.
- Those 33 shots are 26 more than the next-most registered by any Tiger.
- In net for Princeton is star goalkeeper Andrew Samuels. For the second consecutive season, the 2025 Ivy League Defensive Player of the Year and 2026 MLS SuperDraft selection is dominant in net. Through seven games, Samuels boasts a 0.57 GAA with 27 saves and a 0.871 save percentage.
- The Pirates are 13-17-5 all-time against the Tigers, with the first match between the two programs coming in 1986.
- The two sides met last season in South Orange on September 23. After falling behind 1-0, the Pirates went down to 10 men in the 61st minute after an open-field tackle led to a red card. While the Pirates scored an equalizer minutes later, the Tigers scored two unanswered goals to defeat the Pirates, 3-1.
