Oof. Not a great showing today.
Question for the refs here: if a player is getting roughed up and they curse over it, then a parent chirps them from the side line and the player says something back, would you give a red card
Depends on what was said. And removing the parent from the sideline would also be appropriate. For me, it is never appropriate for a parent (or even an opposing coach) to address a player that is not yours. Hell, we had a BA Express coach shove one of my son's teammates at Blitz during a shoving scrum after a brutal foul by an Express player. 5 reds in this game, one to the coach for the shove. (This is the infamous game where the ref told both teams at half time that if you touch another player he was likely calling it a foul because the temp of the game ad risen during the first half and you could see it getting ready to boil over. Ref did a great job trying to keep things cool and this last play occurred with about 4 minutes left, Blitz winning 1-0 and really doing a good job of keeping the ball away from Express...and an Express player just had enough).
As a ref, I don't tolerate parents trash talking other players, I don't tolerate coaches saying anything to opposing players, and heck, I don't really tolerate coaches being abusive towards their own players (did you know a coach or a teammate can be carded for abusive behavior towards their team/teammates?)
I should get some games this coming weekend at Beat the Heat. Apparently they've really altered the schedules with games starting at 7am, playing 30 min halves, no games between 1pm-5pm, and then picking back up from 5pm-9pm. I've heard they've taken fewer teams as well to accommodate the scheduling. I'm also thinking they may be playing a full slate of 3 game slots on Friday to get some more games in.
