Replacing an injured player the week before and now playing right halfback on October 12, 1912, Dwight D. Eisenhower and Army won 19-0 over Rutgers before 7,000 on The Plain at West Point. The New York Times called Ike, “…one of the most promising backs in Eastern football.” Five weeks later he suffered a knee injury that led to the end of his playing career.
