Is it better to start the season with a tough schedule or end with a tough schedule? State was blasted this year for having such an easy ride at the beginning. TSUN could easily start 2013 1-6. State could easily lose 4 of its last 5. Also, State's first five are no cakewalk. Here's what's 2013 is looking like:

I am looking at the Ole Miss Rebel schedule & ...

..thinking WTF? They have 6 home games in a row? How many times in the modern era of college football has a D1 team ever been allowed to schedule 6 home games in a row? It's amazing what those pricks can get away with.

I always think an easy early schedule is better. It allows the team to gel and get better before the tough competition, it allows for more film on the better teams, it allows the better team to have some injuries, and most of all its keeps the interest level and excitement in the season lasting longer. No one blasted us this year for having an easy early schedule, people just said we weren't very good because we had an easy early schedule. However, at least the conversation was had. Better that than to lose early and remove all doubt.

I like to see it mixed. Two easies to start, one in the middle and one in week 9 or 10. You get the tune up to start the season and then a couple breaks through the grind of the season.

Been allowed? Really? 5 of those 6 are SEC games. OM has no control over that portion of the schedule. We also start the season with 4 of 5 on the road. This year is an odd SEC schedule for everyone. They are still working the new teams into the schedule.

Would it make you feel better if we had sold our home game to Troy or Idaho and gone to their place?

our off date sucks .... OM is early as well but well placed between 2 tough games

If I were an OM fan, I wouldn't like Ole Miss' schedule, especially if I were also a season ticket holder. Starting out with 4 of the first 5 away from home and then six home games in a row is NOT good for a lot of reasons. It can be hard to get away for that many weekends in a row, even with the open date in the middle. The actual attendance at those Idaho and Troy home games will be lucky to break 45,000.

If the front-loaded and away games cause OM to start 2-6, then that's not really good either. It can demoralize a team.

I would rather a season be mixed, especially with at least one easier game in mid-late November. I didn't like how our schedule worked out this year. Mix in a couple of our biggest losses early in the the season, and for example, start 5-3 and finish 3-1 with wins over Kentucky, Troy, Arkansas, and a loss in the Egg Bowl, then everyone isn't fussing quite as much.

Why compare these two? Our competition in the SEC includes 13 teams..thx

I think their schedule sucks. They are on the road a lot early, then with 7 weeks in a row the don play on the road until the egg bowl. That will be a tough adjustment if that game is a must win. I think they win six before the egg bowl. Same as us.

Sept. 21 SMU
Sept. 28 at Arkansas

Our second open date must be some of that SEC love from Commissioner $lime.*** Kentucky, who we play on 10/26, also has an open date on 10/19. The change would place 3 games between the open dates and give us an open date before we go on the road to SC & A&M. All this is after $lime gave us SC after we signed the OK State game.

Maybe $lime didn't want a team having 3 straight home games.*** He's always looking out for the SEC's best interests.

We got screwed in the 2013 realignment 'bridge' schedule. We've never played Missouri and the East team we have gone the longest since we played is Vanderbilt (last played at Vandy), so we were due to play either Missouri home/away or Vanderbilt at home, yet the SEC sticks us playing at South Carolina. OM, however, gets to play Missouri.

For those (esp OM fans) that want to point out our easier schedule this year, remember that we played 11-win South Carolina and 10-win Georgia teams from the East in 2011, even tougher than OM's East opponents this year. In 2010 we played Florida/Georgia from the East. In 2009 State played the toughest schedule in the country. And State's permanent East opponent, Kentucky, went bowling every year from 2006-2010.

So we didn't deserve to get screwed by playing at South Carolina in 2013 when we should have been playing Missouri or Vandy. Our AD had apparently been assured that we would play Vandy when we scheduled Oklahoma State.

Either way, it's not THAT big of a deal. It's not like Oklahoma State or even South Carolina are unbeatable. And maybe all this will make our 2014 and 2015 schedules better.

As long as LT is making the schedules, we are not going to get any favors. He is a 17 up. Look at the Ole Miss schedule. Who else would do that in any conference to anybody? He was mad at Byrne for scheduling all of our OOC games in September because it "messed up" the SEC schedule. Meaning we didn't have to play Auburn and LSU for the second and third game which is not in our best interests.

Also, see our baseball schedule.

Nice spin...

..if MSU had 6 home games in a row scheduled for the 2013 season, the MSU athletic dept. would be going nuts with the tweets, proclaming the 2013 season is going to be awash in unparalleled pageantry. Hell, in their excitement, they would probably come up with a new uniform & helmet design for each successive game. And every MSU fan who posts here would be right in the middle of it, claiming 6 home games in a row "unites the fanbase" & "is good for recruiting." A SEC team being allowed to play 6 consecutive home games is unheard of. Everybody claiming there is a downside to having 6 home games in a row reminds me of the "bad win" nonsense when it comes to basketball.

I would like Ole Miss' schedule if I were a baseball team, but 6 homes games in a row will kill their crowds, especially if they start off bad. There isn't one team in the country that could fill up a stadium and have energy that many weeks in a row.

Did you lose your mind recently?

All of those home games bunched up like that isn't good. Also, ole miss has nothing to do with their SEC schedule, tb2 is right. Not sure why you're mad.

OM will win 4 of their last 5. I think Vandy and Texas are toss ups for them. I give them an edge against Vandy since it's the opener. In all, I see them winning 6 or 7.

Many seem to think we will lose to Ok St. but give us a W against Auburn. I think we match up better against Ok St. Auburn will be very hard for us to beat. If we can play for 4 quarters we should beat Arkansas for the first time over there. I think we get 6 wins.

Vanderbilt has beaten them three straight and 5 of the last 6. The game is in Nashville. The fact that is played first gives Vandy, a team with less depth if an injury occurs, a huge edge. I'll give you Ole Miss straight up right now for any amount of money you want to wager.

The way Ole Miss' season is set up is pretty bad for Oxford. With the exception of directional state tech, this essentially extends summer for a month 1/2, which is really bad for a local economy that thrives on 3-4 games at this time bringing in business.

Exactly. And I wouldn't be surprised if that was a Thursday nighter.

Well, it was an initial gut feeling, and I sure as hell wouldn't bet on it because it is a toss up. I couldn't bet in favor of OM in anything. Vandy really has owned them.

Unbelievable...

..I am actually confronting people on a sports messageboard that are claiming there is a downside to having 6 consecutive home games in a row. I think I've finally seen it all. Okay, let's stick to that logic: If scheduling 6 home games in a row is a bad thing, somebody inform us how being forced to play 6 away games in a row is a good thing.

6 straight home games is ridiculous. And y'all open the season with 1 out 5 on the road. Y'all could be a better team next year but easily start out 1-4.

If we start out 1-4, then we'll be 1-6 in all likelihood.

That said, Vandy is losing more than they're bringing back I believe, whereas we return nearly the same team minus about 5 major contributors. And I have no idea how good Auburn will be next year.
