Way better effort for us than the East Surry game despite the score not showing it, still very frustrating. Guess I'm expecting way to much out of a bunch of freshman.

Defensively minus the two freak plays they had we looked much improved, tackling's better and line played better that alone's great considering we had no idea of what they ran until the game started. Offensively we went backwards. Kids still gotta grow up but they are getting there. Reminds me a lot of the 2013 JV game, we shoulda won that one too.

As for who will win between East and MA on JV.. if MA can keep the ball for good periods of time then they will have a solid chance but if not then East will take off. East's offense is very good, defense not so much but not bad either. East's JV RB will give MA a lot of fits. MA has a very fast secondary, line play is middle ground for them. One of those games that could be surprisingly close or lopsided, hard to say. If MA keeps the shutout streak going they could have a serious shot.

Next week for us is Walkertown down there, dreading the drive already

Again either RJR's just awful on JV this year or NF's that good.. no idea. Next week vs Carver will show a lot.

East Surry must have dressed out over thirty some on jv last night. Don't see that much in 1a anymore

They have 43 Varsity & 38 JV listed on MacPrep.
That is close to Tarboro's numbers Varsity 46 JV 36
How is that compared to most western or eastern 1A schools ?
Mount Airy shows 33 Varsity but no JV listed

Slash I know west Wilkes won big but do not have a final score, that sets up a big match up next week in jv ball, WC is 1-2 and if I’m not mistaken WW comes in 3-0 and has supposedly looked impressive

Bummer.

Did Carrick the QB get moved up? I know he played JV vs Walkertown and McMichael.

No. Carrick is still the JV QB. Souths RB got hurt on first drive and never came back in. Hurt what they could do. Was also missing their starting fullback and middle LB who was out with an injury.

Tonight's Slate:

Reidsville at East Surry
West Stokes at Surry Central*
North Surry at Walkertown*
Atkins at Forbush*
Starmount at Elkin*
Wilkes Central at West Wilkes*
North Wilkes at East Wilkes*
Ashe County at Alleghany*
North Forsyth at Carver*

\
Mount Airy and South Stokes are off.

Well conference time is finally here. Lots of potentially fun matchups off the bat especially in the MVAC where the conference standings will be determined in quite a few ways off the bat. Surprising conference leaders West Wilkes host a very athletic and full of momentum Wilkes Central squad in what could be a game for the #1 spot. Both are doing well after some big wins and are looking for a spark for a run to the title. Central has more expeirence in this spot West is the suprise team, can they keep the momentum? In Ronda a hard to predict EW teams host North Wilkes in what could be another good game. East is 1-1 but are coming off a very LONG break while North Wilkes has rebounded from an opening night loss to 2 straight W's in very solid fashion. NW has one of the best JV offenses in the area so it may be a question if East has any rust on them, if so North could run away. Starmount heads to Elkin after a disappointing loss to the 'Bush in 2 OT's. The Rams are a lot younger and are having a hard time finding their ID but have talent so they need an eye opener. Elkin meanwhile finally got a W over South last week after 2 rough losses. Elkin's offense looks to be jamming and could be the one to watch in MVAC play. Lastly Ashe heads to Alleghany which could be a much closer game than last year when Alleghany destroyed Ashe. This year meanwhile Ashe is doing surprisingly well while Alleghany has had issues the past 2 games with fumbles and rough play.. they are expected to do well so the ? is can they rebound enough to keep up?

In NW play all of the teams except East are off. East faces an athletic Reidsville team tonight in what could be their last test until the MA game. East has looked capable the past 2 games vs more wide open offences so the Rams shouldn't over-estimate the Cards here. Reidsville barely beat East last year, the Cards want this game quite a bit. They could do it.

In WPAC play conference play begins tonight. Surry Central's at home vs West Stokes in what could be a close one, West got beat last week vs East but have been hanging around this year. Central's having a more all over the place season as they upset Wilkes Central but
were thumped by the Ronda and Pilot Cards, so something will give here. North Surry heads to Walkertown hoping for a much improved conference open. Last week the 'Hounds defense played much better but MA's D gave the O fits.. tonight could be a nice night to reverse that however it won't be easy vs an athletic Walkertown team so the 'Hounds better come ready to thud it up. In East Bend the Falcons host the Atkins Camels in what should be an easy win, last year the Bush ran it all over Atkins and Atkins barely beat Bishop last year. However their athletic RB is supposedly quite good, will be a good test for the Bush's defense. And lastly Carver hosts North Forsyth on JV for the first time in quite a few years. NF has had 2 close losses and are looking to end that streak vs a very offensively anemic Carver team who's won 1 by forfeit but not done much else.

Good matchups aplenty tonight, hope everyone has a good one!

One of the more frustrating games we have had in a while on JV.. shoulda won it but we found ways to not do so. I forgot how frustrating it is to have all Freshmen on JV.

On the whole we played the best we have since the Elkin game but the 2nd quarter just killed us and we couldn't overcome it. They aren't big or skilled in passing it but they are fast as hell and run the Wing's trick plays really well. They got us 2 good times on one of those razzle dazzle plays and we let them score. Besides that they had 1 real drive the entire game which we botched. Offense looked better but we had too many fumbles, a lot of that is due to youth. The same kid had 2 drops he wasn't used to getting passes, kids gotta learn. We had 2 solid drives, just gotta keep getting better.

I was really proud of our fight in the 2nd half, hardest fought half on JV all year for us. Just gotta get better at producing. Next week's gonna be hard because I hear NF's really good but as long as we keep the fight up I can't be too upset. End of the year in JV play's gonna be fun though.

Big win for the Cards, NW was rolling the past two games..

Wilkes Central 22, West Wilkes 6

West falls back to earth while Central gets a decent win.

Both were off of the School's Twitter pages. Love the random repeating 22's.

Tonight's Games:

Reidsville at Mount Airy
RJR at East Surry
Surry Central at Forbush*
Elkin at Ashe*
North Surry at North Forsyth*
West Stokes at Atkins*
South Stokes at Bishop*
Alleghany at Starmount*
North Wilkes at Wilkes Central*
East Wilkes at West Wilkes*

Looks like everyone's gonna bear the heat tonight.. dreading it down in Winston tonight. Thankfully it's looking like it's gonna be the end of this crap so please bring it on.

Some intresting games on the slate tonight.. Reidsville heads to MA for revenge after getting beat by East Surry last week pretty solid. East Surry hosts 4A RJR.

In MVAC play things are heating up. Gonna be an intresting one on the mountain tonight as Ashe hosts Elkin in a battle of the suprise teams. Elkin's option offense has stepped up the past 2 games and has overcame an 0-2 start while Ashe has fizzled after starting 2-0. Ashe is much improved from 2018, so it could be a fun one. East Wilkes heads west to play the Blackhawks. The Cards looked not so rusty last week after a long layoff as they overcome a feisty North Wilkes team, West meanwhile got knocked back into reality by Central. Speaking of Cental they host that NW team tonight. Starmount meanwhile hopes to rebound to their potential as they host a surging Alleghany team who overcame 2 loses to a solid win over Ashe. Starmount was only one of 2 teams that had an upper hand on the Trojans last year, the Spartans badly want revenge.

In NW Play South heads to Bishop instead of playing South Davidson.

In WPAC play things look more interesting. West Stokes heads to Winston to play a very athletic Atkins team in what could be an interesting one, they played the 'Bush awfully hard last week especially in the 2nd half. West meanwhile got upset by Central last week and badly need to save face. An upset here would really shock the conference up to it's core. North Forsyth hosts North Surry for the first time on JV.. NF's JV coach pulled a Joe Namath and declared theirselves the champions of the conference after 1 game in the WS Chronicle, so it's gonna be interesting to see how the conference responds the next few weeks. North Surry still has it's woes but the youngin's outplayed Walkertown in the 2nd half last week but it wasn't enough to overcome the lousy 2nd quarter.. The Hounds will be looking for a spark tonight. Speaking of Walkertown they host Carver in some major deja vu for McKoy as he plays his old school in Winston on the other side for the first time. WT has some killer athletes and will give Carver fits, Carver's still looking to score a point as they haven't done so yet.

Hope everyone stays safe tonight!
