Everyone is 0-0 right now. Playoff success is determined by a multitude of factors coming together at the same time. Being healthy, team matchups, getting hot at the right time, talent, and coaching. As I look at the brackets I see some lower seeded teams that have the potential to cause havoc with the higher seeds. Ashbrook and West Meck are lower seeded teams that can give their opponents trouble. Both teams have plenty of athletes and speed. South Point playing Dudley in the second round potentially should be an outstanding game. My dark horse team is Ashbrook. They will not win the state but I can see them getting to the 3rd round if opponents overlook them. The first round has some good matchups overall. Does anyone else have a dark horse that you think can do well in the playoffs?

Oak Grove 10-0 may not necessarily be considered a dark horse but compare to the likes of King Mountain, Dudley, South Point, East Lincoln they probably are. We will see what kind of noise they make in the playoffs.

Franklin is actually peaking at the right time, if they get by West Rowan, they could give west hendo another run for their money as they did the first time, Brooks is a great coach and I wouldn't want to play them twice in just a couple of weeks.

To be fair, West from the 1st half and West from the 2nd half were 2 totally different teams. West made it look easy in the second half then took the foot off the gas. I’m not sure Franklin gave them a run more so than West had to wake up from the 2.5 hour bus drive and had to quit looking ahead to Tuscola.

West at home, playing with urgency. I’m sure West would welcome that more than you think.

I want to hear some early predictions for which teams come out of each small bracket to make the 3rd round, 4th round and then the West final matchup.

I am thinking KM vs WC 3rd round
NW Cabarrus or Asbrook vs East Lincoln 3rd round
Crest vs either SP or Dudley in 3rd round (SP needs to put #5 and #8 as their wingbacks)
West Henderson vs Parkwood in 3rd round ( Parkwood is better than many may realize)

East
NN vs Southern Durham 3rd round
Havelock vs Smithfield Selma or CB Aycock (Havelock is the only site bet here)
71st vs Lee County 3rd round
Eastern Alamance vs Scotland

I was saying the same thing about SP using #5 in the offense. He’s too fast and athletic to only keep him at safety.
I need to take a look at Parkwood.

Parkwood is an up and down team but they are in a idea part of bracket. I watched video of them against Indian Land and Marvin Ridge and they played well against two teams that are pretty solid. I thought they expected to lose against Monroe and played accordingly.

Sometimes those can be the scariest teams to play because you don’t know what to expect or which team will show up.

Statesville is far from the team they were a year ago. What makes you think they will beat Crest?
Statesville is just too young everywhere but they're on a 6 game winning streak. Comparing Statesville from week 1 to now is comparing to completely different teams. I think this varsity experience for alot of the underclassmen is the difference. I like Statesville as underdogs. I feel the underdog card works very well for a young team like Statesville. Hearing Crest Oline and Dline is small could be a huge problem for Crest, Also Statesville secondary is very good. Let's just say I wouldn't be surprised if the young Greyhounds walk away with a W. They were expected to lose by 10 to Hickory. Dominate the game up 20-0 ( with 2 tds called back) until 7.47 left in the 4th. Hickory made a run. I'm ready to see how this plays out

Question for Statesville fans. I know that the Greyhounds underwent a coaching change. Have you guys seen any improvement in Statesville from a fundamentals standpoint? In the previous years when I seen Statesville in the playoffs it just seemed like they were fielding great athletes on the field with no discipline or technique in my opinion. It would always catch up with them against good teams.
Also Crest fans be warned. I am not sure how the NC high school association assign refs currently but the game against Dudley last year was one of the worst games that I seen officiated. The ref whistles were the only thing that made that game look respectable for Statesville. The officials called at least 18 illegal procedures on Dudley. Dudley coaches were going crazy. It got to a point that the referee should have told Dudley coaches what was causing the flags. After the game the Dudley coaches still seemed confused and only said that they will need to watch the film. It definitely disrupted the flow of the game.

Early on Statesville had ALOT of adversity. Shout out to the coaching staff for keeping this group together and excelling. Most programs would've folded long ago. But credit to the players for realizing their potential and seizing the moment. We are extremely YOUNG!! You'll see this program take off in the coming years. Coach Cowan has set the expectations and standard. The kids believe in him, the community does as well. See you at Da Ranch

71st verse Rose in round 2 as rose beat them last year in fville, Lee County with the long
4 hr trip to currituck county is definitely no lock round 1, Havelock and Jacksonville round
2 as they played a high scoring 2 pt game in the regular season. Hope Scot can get to the EA
game, Fike then a possible meeting with terry sanford before that, Whomever EA plays in round 2
they will have played a tight game with during the regular season (williams or WA)

You keep saying how young Statesville is. Half of the Crest starters are 9th and 10th graders. I'm not sure how much younger Statesville could be?

They keep finding ways to pull out wins, that makes for a good football team

I'm hoping Scotland can make its "usual" Post Regular Season run, if were lucky we'll get some hardware out of it this time. I think a lot of people are sleeping on 71st... I think they will make a sound run in the east.
