I don't understand a word this announcer is saying. But his joy is obvious, and considering how improbable it was that Saudi Arabia went ahead of Argentina in the 2nd half, I think most announcers would have reacted the same way.

I watched the end of the 1st half and the beginning of the 2nd half of the FRA v AUS match and FRA is on a way different level than the US. They continually advanced and put pressure on AUS time and time again.

If the US had adopted the same attitude as FRA in the 2nd half, we'd have 3 pts.

I wonder if there were any books taking action on this being the standings in Group C after their 1st round of games:

Germany - Japan has been an entertaining match. Lots of back and forth, and quite a few chances and shots on goal. At the 68 minute mark, it's 1-0, Germany, with their goal on a PK. Below is the foul that resulted in the PK, and the PK shot.

Japan nearly took the early lead against Germany, but it was ruled (correctly) offsides.

Japan with the equalizer at the 74 minute mark. 1-1. I believe the guy that scored had been subbed in just 4 minutes earlier.

Yeah, entertaining match, Germany 1-0 Japan at 75’. I was just about to type that Japan had a great chance foiled and then they go ahead and score, 1-1 now.

The missed opportunity and the goal were carbon copies of each other: Neuer makes a great save and Japan gets the rebound. In the first instance it went wide, in the second instance it’s net.

The tweet asks a good question. The GK was so concerned with a low ball that he left things wide open for a high shot.

PK awarded to Spain. Tough call (technically accurate, but a really tough call on the defender), and Spain converts at the 30 minute mark, making it 3-0, Spain.

I really enjoy watching Japan play. Fast and disciplined. They put a lot of pressure on Germany’s back line, threw long balls the whole match long. They kept getting called offside but only just, and you got the feeling that it might pay off, which it did.

Spain gets a goal just before regulation, to make it 6-0.

They are playing 8 minutes off stoppage time. (Nice thing about contests at lower levels, it one team is up 6-0, the ref rarely adds stoppage time.)

And early in stoppage time, Spain scores again to make it 7-0.
