They just recently brought in Hollingshead, the 6’5” Fr from UGA. If my math is right they have one spot open
I know about Hollingshead, but if they still are short one, my priority would be for another backup post for insurance. Key is foul prone and I don't know if I would solely rely on Hollinghead to be her only back up.

With Hillingshead, they don't have a position open at this point....UT will need to recruit a center this year as Key is a Senior...I guess she could come back and use the extra year (covid)...

I'm hoping Rosario signs with us.....I know she has taken trips to UNC and NC State....we need her so that she backs up Cordosa her freshman year then be the starter her sophomore year...I think Watkins will play the PF position...

The more I see of Key, the less impressed I am.

She is not an offensive threat unless it’s an O rebound or she is playing a physically overmatched opponent.

She is a very good low post defender and rim protector. The only problem is once she is more than 6 feet from the basket she is a liability. Boston and Saxton can defend the perimeter and make the switches, Key cannot.

There really is nobody out there to bring in to help. Striplin is 6’4” and played in 12 SEC games although sparingly. If push comes to shove I imagine the transfer Franklin 6’1” will get pushed to the post

Tennessee and others turned her down, but not UNC, State and Duke? Not buying it myself. If she goes to one of those 3, then she wanted to stay closer to home.
I know I am beating a dead horse

BUT IT’S BEEN FOUR WEEKS SINCE RIVERS ENTERED THE PORTAL

Basically she is the last important player left in the portal. Many of her potential landing spots are filled already. The prime suspects left are Duke, UNC, and State, they are well.....

Duke and UNC both have maybe one to give but are stocked up at her playing positions and need help elsewhere on the court. UNC is at present also full for next year.

State has been the obvious choice. They have schollies, need her talent, family ties and close to home. BUT if it’s such a no brainer, why hasn’t she pulled the trigger?????

Based on nothing but my gut(could be last night’s burritos and tequila) I think DS is in her ear and we are still in play. The grass ain’t always greener. Think Kiki and Bianca.

Wake Forest fired their coach yesterday, pretty much after the whole coaching search time frame. I believe the timing was to keep the roster intact/hold the players hostage.

Do the players have recourse in this situation to be eligible for next season should they transfer?
Jewel Spear was all ACC and averaged 18ppg. She would have been highly sought after had she entered earlier.

You would think if players have a deadline to enter portal or else have to stay, then if a school fires a coach after said deadline, those players are free to go elsewhere no punishment. The problem with NCAA is they never think of all sides of situations. They hold to a rule and others have to suffer their stupidity. It seems only fair this be a situation where players can freely transfer if they had nothing to do with situation. If they forced the coach out as some teams have done, then they have to stay to play for what comes next, but if they had nothing to do with this situation, they should be allowed to go.

I agree with you.

Jenn Hoover, WFU coach, was not fired for cause. It appears the AD simply waited almost two months until after WFU’s season was over to make the decision.

As a sometime conspiracy theory guy, it just seems too damn convenient a way to protect your roster.

I still think she's gone, especially after her interview saying she felt she wasn't the right fit here. I would love to have her back and she will fill in our biggest need as an experienced backup SG for Cooke. I still think the Kiki situation was an outlier due to other factors that wasn't basketball related but personnel related.

The Wake Forest players should be still able to transfer, the issue that will keep many of them there is the fact that many teams have already filled in roster spots from the portal.

Wake actually added a transfer from Illinois after the coach was fired. Go figure.

Interesting theory. I have to give the AD credit for being clever, if that was the plan. Unless you plan on making a 'splash hire,' why not wait until late to make a move? I agree it's ethically questionable, but the AD is working for the school. We'll see how well it works out in the long run. We're in unchartered territory here.

You can attempt things coaching-wise with the portal that would have been unthinkable before.

Forgetting about Feagins as she will get more playing time as well.

IMO Rosario is a MUST get. There has been one year in the past 11 years where we have not had a true post player. We went 23-10, with just brutal losses to Baylor,UMD, and UCONN. 30 point losses! We also had a culture problem that year, not to name names....T’ea Cooper.

If we do not Rosario, we go into 24-25 praying that we sign a post player who can immediately start and play at a high level as a Fr. Not many of those.
Feagins can play the 4 and possibly the 3, She was a good 3 pt shooter in HS. Watkins can play post but will have a difficult time against taller players

As a funny side note whenever I type in Feagins autocorrect substitutes Dragons!

Cordoso will be a senior that year, will she not? And as tough as making a WNBA roster is these days, might she just opt for a fifth year?

As I understand it, she will not be eligible for an extra year due to Covid. The upcoming senior is the last class to be afforded that option. I would not be surprised to see Amihere take a fifth year.

Actually it's Cardoso and Russell's class that will be the final class that will get the the fifth year option. Basically the 2020-2021 year didn't happen in terms of eligibility. So anyone in a roster at that time has an extra year.

Unless she regresses, I don't see Cardoso not being a first round lottery pick in any year. You can't teach 6'8 than can run and pass as well as she does. She distinctly came here to improve her draft stock and I be shocked if she stayed for an extra year.

Will take your word, I thought it was the 19-20 year that was seen as a wash. That was the year there was no NCAA Tourney.

A little controversy with the Maryland coach exposing a player's academic record in what seems like sour grapes that she transferred.

Wow! If you are Mimi Collins, how can you not take that personally? Gotta at least contact a lawyer to get at least a very public apology from Frese, maybe even a check with an NDA. Coach is supposed to be the adult in the room.

All Frese had to say was “Mimi found a graduate program better suited to her needs than the same one here at Maryland.” It’s still catty, but it Gets the message across for anyone paying attention.

DS has still not said a bad word about T’ea Cooper or any other player who has transferred out.

Don’t know if you noticed, but Raoul, the original tweet is the guy who runs wbbblog

Good I'm glad they are taking it to court. I was ok with Brenda untill this news came out. I have no respect for anyone who would do this to one of their players.

Yes Dawn is amazing, she even allowed Cooper the dignity to make it seem like she chose to leave vs. asked to leave.

Here are two articles on Maryland and Frese that address the team and transfer issue. The first is a UMD site and the second The Washington Post.

As with any coach, Frese is a bit self serving.

OK guys I went down the Maryland rabbit hole for a bit. Frese is notorious for talent in/talent out.
Five transfers out.
Five transfers in. Between them they averaged 74 ppg. last season. DAMN!
Four incoming freshmen.
They only have two players returning who have significant playing time.

But hey their strength and conditioning coach80DDAA61-04FA-4988-94C7-F21E2EA0DBBF.jpeg

There were a lot better ways to say that without concealment or lying outright. "Her particular academic objectives inclined her to look elsewhere".

Destiny Littleton to Southern California, looks like she's going back home and gets to study at a good program. I'm happy for her as long as she knows who the real USC is.

Someone on the Boneyard said Rivers is visiting NC State this weekend so I would expect an announcement soon.

Saniya posted on Twitter that she was in Greensboro for a birthday celebration with her mom...... so at least we know she was not in Columbia or Wilmington
