I hope we play Missouri in the SEC tournament so we can win by 30+ and put that nonsense to rest. also would be fun to absolutely humiliate LSU and Tennessee and put to rest the moral victory lies and nonsense coming from both fanbases. we have been #1 all year in both polls yet they still think they are a player or two away from us what a joke, destroy them!

As you know I have updated defensive stats during the season, with a new kicker at the end today.

#1 Rebound margin, blocks, blocks per game, defensive shooting %
#3 Defensive rebounds
#5 Offensive rebound
#6 points allowed per game

#56 fewest fouls committed.

That may sound rather pedestrian BUT we are #1 in the SEC and if you go down the list there are only 5 power five teams ranked ahead of us plus UCF, UConn, and Marquette.
We are smothering people on D and just not fouling. That makes yesterday’s game even more of an outlier. Either both teams were brutal hacks or the refs sucked/called the game differently than they have all year. Our depth made all the fouls just a minor bump in the road

So the top 4 USC, UF,LSU and UT are set but not the order 2-4. Even if OM goes 3-0 they lose the tiebreaker all around.

And bottom four are set A&M, Bama, Vandy and Auburn it’s just order to be determined

With 3 wins or 2 wins and UGA loss OM Is the 5 seed
UGA has to go 2-0 and OM has to lose at least once for UGA to get the 5 seed
Ark can get the 5 seed with 3 wins AND OM going 0-2

6-10 boys and girls is beyond my skill or time willing to invest

Unfortunately, I might have to root for LSU over Tenn, depending on the outcomes of our games. I would rather face LSU in the final because

a) a Staley vs Mulkey matchup would be more dramatic in the final than semi-finals

and

b) LSU's guards play a ton of minutes. They could be exhausted by Sunday, especially if they play a fast-paced game against Florida on Saturday.

Of course, I think we could beat any team, regardless. However, the more in our favor, the better.

Easier games is better. We still are teaching the second string and don’t want to wear out the first string. Winning at tournament time with many games close together depends on having a deep bench like we do.

The Henny/Zia/Rivers/Boston/Cardoso is my favorite lineup. It really takes advantage of the length and passing ability of Boston and Rivers. Henderson and Zia are smaller guards so they sometimes have trouble passing over a zone.

It was this lineup (Littleton in place of Zia) that really blew the Tennessee game open.

Defensively, it could even potentially be better (or worse) than the starting lineup, depending on the matchup. I don't see coach using it against a team like Arkansas that can spread the floor, even though it would cause a matchup nightmare for the Razorbacks. DS will not sacrifice defense to gain offense, unless perhaps we're behind. Defense is the team's identity.

That gif is from the first time we played A&M, so hopefully we'll see more of the lineup Thursday.

A&M is so perimeter and three point driven that I don’t think you can put Boston and Cardoso out there long. Slide Beal to the 4 and insert Rivers at three. A gain on D and shooters and against A&M no loss on the boards. Or just sub Rivers for Beal.
But, hey I’m just a dumbass on a chat room🤣🤣🤣

I'm sure coach will see how the game is going to determine her substitution pattern. Gary Blair tried to go small against LSU with Destiny Pitts at the 4. She picked up two fouls 90 seconds into the game!

I suspect he will start with two bigs. But who knows? It's his last game at home, so maybe he rolls the dice. Their loss to Bama in 2 overtimes was real tough, though. Not sure what to expect from the Aggies. Probably their best. lol. I guess that comes with being the #1 ranked team.

Another note: Amihere didn't play in the first game with A&M. She could have a big impact because she's a very good perimeter defender. She can guard a small and then turn around and post up on the offensive end.

The fun thing about this team is you always have options

A general WBB question but related to coaching our bigs: can someone please teach them to jump? I know they didn’t need to jump in HS but LA and Cardoso would get more rebounds and make more baskets if they could do a better job jumping “above the fray.” IMHO. Saxton and many times AB do a good job jumping.

Kamilla especially. And please take more shots. With her height advantage, more likely than not, it's going in or she's getting fouled. Plus she's an excellent FT shooter. Boston exhausts all possibilities before kicking it out. Kamilla needs to do the same.

Do you remember a time when Allisha Gray was playing great? Back then I was thinking “could we ever replace her?”.

Another curiosity is that CDS was a “short” point guard but is the best coach I have seen coaching the bigs. We are lucky.

Chaos for everyone except us in terms of seeding for the SEC tournament. We will most likely play Mizzou, UK, Arkansas or State. Mizzou had 4 players out tonight, including Blackwell and Williams. Rumor on the Mizzou board is weed. Don't know how long they will be out. Alexis Morris went down with an injury. She'll have an MRI on her knee tomorrow. It really makes me sick to see a player injured, especially this late in the season. Hopefully nothing too serious.

Attendance tidbits

Of course we are #1 for the 89th straight year

Our attendance on the road 5,729 which would be #10 nationally. Except for the LSU game, we were opponents top attendance game. And the LSU game was in their #10 attendance games of all time.

Kamilla and LA have great chemistry. Some of those passes and anticipations were beautiful.

Any concern about Kamilla? She only played 6 minutes and was observed rubbing her left shoulder during the time on the court and again when she sat. She and LA have great chemistry. Some of those passes and anticipations were beautiful.

I think she started rubbing her shoulder after she was fouled by #44. I posted a gif on the game thread of 44 committing a hard foul against Boston. Here you can tell Cardoso and 44 are having words and her teammates are telling Kamilla to ignore her

Cardoso never came back in and Boston was pulled immediately after she got her 10th rebound. Obviously, if the game was close, Dawn would have played them. No reason to risk anything bad happening in a blow out, though.

Agree. I went back and watched. She didn't seem to be in pain after this occurred and it didn't seem to limit her movement in any way. Probably something minor. She actually committed the foul on #44. Blocked the ball with both hands and tried to pull up quickly to avoid contact. Like you said, no need to risk damage with a game well in hand.

She blocked the ball. So where was the foul?

Yet one more stunning stat about our defense

  • South Carolina's defense has held opponents 23.7 points per game below their average entering the contest with the Gamecocks. Only Missouri and Mississippi State came within 10 points of their average, which lowers the SEC average slightly to 21.3 points per game below their average.

Well if Mizzou can win the 8-9 matchup you get your wish
