Davis needs to force the action in period 1, and period 2 from his feet.
Agree to disagree. Fig played with Davis' hair 98% of the bout.
There just didn't seem like a sense of urgency to get out after the reversal. Davis kept looking at the ref for help for some reason on that sit out. Instead of looking for the ref to do something he needed to work to get out. There was way too much time wasted by Davis looking at the ref to do "something" there.
Yeah, bummer for him without question, but not a lot of action.
Nagao in the hole on Mat 8. @GregPickel, we may have a conflict between Bartlett's match, so can you plan on doing the PBP on Nagao's match?
I'm sorry, I must have missed the part where Davis was taking multiple shots and leaving his knees. It was a close match with little offense from either guy, Davis made a mistake and lost.
If Davis would have tried to push the pace and attack before the last 30 seconds or so he might have been able to draw a stall.
Yeah, it appears Davis got wrapped up in his head about his appeal to the ref, instead of staying in the moment and pressing for the stall.
At the end? Wanted stalling called again on Figueroa that would have netted a penalty point to tie the bout at three and send it to sudden victory.
His inexperience was showing there.
You're looking at it in the wrong context. Look at all the 125 quarters:
- Ayala (Iowa) over Spratley (Okla. St), 4-1, SV-1
- Noto (Lock Haven) over Ramos (Purdue), 4-1, SV-1
- Barnett (Wisky) over Smith (Nebraska), 4-3, TB
So would you claim there was no offense from the Iowa, Okla. St., Lock Haven, Purdue, Wisconsin, and Nebraska wrestlers? They pretty much had the same amount of O as did Davis. The lightweights at this level can be tough to score on. They are all so fast, both on O and on D.
Other than one snap back attempt. Figs just rode when Davis in sit out position. I think that was also part of his complaint
That's definitely fair. No argument. @Tom McAndrew put it best above. Can be a tough weight class to score in, especially at this point of the competition.
I "think" Davis felt like Figueroa wasn't really wrestling, but was just moving his hands around. Think Davis thought the ref might call stalling for that.
Davis has more offensive skillset to me then what he let's himself believe. Which, as we've watched Beau now 4 years feels the same way. Beau wrestles completely different in freestyle. Davis should watch more Mitchell. But hey, what he has done has exceeded everyone's expectations for 125 this year so we are a bit spoiled.
It looked like he wanted either locked hands or a stall call. Neither made sense there, though.
He got a warning with about 35 seconds left. Another one while Figs was running away would have been a point to tie.
It was a legitimate gripe.
Figs was just leaning his weight into Davis in the seated position and not wrestling.
It was chickenshit wrestling, but Davis let it get to his head.
Looked like Figs was trying to get to third base on the first date. LOL
Way to go Nagao, with the late victory
