We will probably drop some if we should lose to UCLA or we could move up some if we should beat them. Go Heels!

44 pts (on 16-25), 16 steals, 9 rebounds, and 4 assists in 28 minutes is insane. Dhe did have 6 turnovers but still, wow.Xnapper-2025-11-13-16.43.22.png

The win is even more impressive because 4 of the 5 starters for WVa were ejected.
Correct. I’m even more amazed the great coach of Team USA lost to that team. They didn’t just win, they dominated the 2H.

Heck of a win by Mark Campbell and his team. Always been a fan of him and his style.

No Duke players were made available to the media after the game per Lawson.

So the Duke girl started all that and somehow West Virginia lost five players and Duke lost one. I get the rule about not coming off the bench, but it seemed like they took a step or two off the bench. I’m glad West Virginia won that game. That was the right karmic outcome. Kara Lawson is easy to hate in a sports way. Her team basically plays Coach K foul everyone all the time defense and their offense should come with a warning it’s so unwatchable

Someone mentioned a well-oiled offense in Raleigh. TCU walked in and won by double-figures today, holding them to just 59 points. They lead by double figures the last 16 minutes by as many as 16 in the 4Q. Suarez was a finalist for us in the portal season and scored 26 today- and has maintained her trash talk and taunting. Man, I wish we could’ve landed her.

Duke player, Jordan Wood, who was ejected for fighting the WVU game traveled with the team to Liberty today. She sat with fans 3 rows behind the bench and stayed there during halftime. Lawson sending a message.

5-star PG Skinner did not play. Not sure what her injury is. She missed the first two games. Played 13 min vs Norfolk St- 4 points, 5 assists, 6 turnovers. Lawson called her the most gifted passer she has had at Duke following the game in her PC. She’s responded in the WVU game playing 21 min and contributing 2 points (1-9) and 4 TOs with 0 assists. Unclear a time table for return.

We will play South Dakota State on Thanksgiving, followed by Kansas State the next day. (And then Columbia)

  • SDSU is undefeated with 4 convincing wins against mid-majors; a team receiving votes
  • K State started the season ranked but has struggled a lot. Beat #79 SMU by just 46-44, lost to #185 South Dakota U 72-71, then lost to #50 aTm 72-77

A real possibility that Kansas State is the weakest team we play over Thanksgiving. SDSU is a team that could win a game in the NCAAT. Columbia is well-coached (Banghart tree) and we will likely see a lot of similarities. She is a fiesty little coach if anyone attended the NCAAT games in Carmichael last year and remembers her. They have a couple solid players.

A quick preview of each:
1) SDSU: (could end up being a Q1 win)- F avg 26/9/4. 5 players avg at least 9 ppg. Shooting 36% from 3 on the year. Avg just 11 TOs a game. Shooting 53% from the field as a team. Their big is 6'2 and the tallest on the team that plays;
2) Columbia: 2-1 (loss to a good Richmond team). struggled shooting- 25% as a team from 3; 41% overall; avg 18 TOs a game, Big 3 of Weiss (20ppg), Page (16 ppg), Raifu (15 ppg) are legit and add in a sniper in Broom. After that, nothing. Our depth should wear them down and we should force 20+ TOs. They don't really play anyone >6'1
3) Kansas State: 3-2 on the year. I think this is a team that struggles to make the NCAAT. We thought this would be a guaranteed Q1 opportunity coming into the year... They do play 10 people- avg 14+ min a game. All 10 are averaging at least 5ppg; just one healthy player over 10ppg. A tiny team; just one player over 6'1 and that player is.... simply not very good..... and will only be in about 10mpg.

I would expect to see a lot of small-ball line-ups the next 2 games vs UNCG and A&T with our tendency to match what the other team puts on the floor.

I agree. We need to take care of business one game at a time. These games are must win games. We have to jump on them early, take care of business, and do what we are suppose to do. No excuses.

I agree they’re important but I’m not convinced there are any must-win games in November.

Must win depends on the goal you are talking about.
  • If the goal is to go undefeated then every game is a must win. (oops, too late)
  • If the goal is to win the ACC regular season we will not see a must win until hopefully January at earliest. But is we lose to Louisville and BC in Dec then we will get to must wins real fast.
  • If the goal is to make the tourney then hopefully we never see a must win because we are never on the bubble
  • If the goal is to host the first two rounds (my first goal every season) then you cant lose too many OOC or suddenly every game in conference is a must win.
Sweep SDSU, K State and Columbia in Cancun and we can continue to stave off forcing ourselves into must-wins and needed upset wins. Any one of those games we should win. But sweeping all 3 is a pretty solid accomplishment.

Trygger out for NCSU today but it is reportedly a short-term issue.

NCSU having some issues putting Coastal Carolina away.
End 3Q: NCSU 53 - CCU 39.

0-4 Grand Canyon beat SMU 76-60 yesterday. Carolina transfer Paulina Paris has had a rough year. 6 ppg on 24% shooting and 7% from 3

I thought that was an online for profit school. seriously. Did they build a campus on the rim of the canyon?

In regards to PP: Unless she is a bit injured or something my take away here is that she was receiving the most beneficial coaching for her at her first college stop...

Well, the CCU Bus almost ran into me just now after backing down from road after missing the exit towards 40…..

NCSU ended up winning by 13. Very reminiscent of the UNC/Navy Men's game last night in letting a lesser opponent reenter the game who should be a 25 pt dog. NCSU did win comfortably, but their fans are probably not reassured by the 2nd half performance.

NCSU will not be good in any game Trygger does not play. Maybe their most critical piece even though Brooks and Pierre are better players.

Trygger is the most important piece for State without question. She just does so much not just in her scoring and rebounding but the uniqueness of her game with the ability to stretch the defense and create space for others to operate. This NC State team is going to take some time to be it's best. Pierre as good as she is as a player, is having some struggles adjusting to playing within the system and not having to be the go to player on every possession and that is leading to her forcing shots and having too many turnovers (she had 5 last night). Lots of good pieces but are still a work in progress in terms of learning to play together. I said earlier this year when chatting with some of you on here in the preseason that I thought that freshman Kyshe Lunan was going to be a factor as a freshman and her play to date and of late, has been really good. She has another level of quickness and athleticism that not many young players have. She can really get after opponents defensively and knocked in a couple of threes last night to go along with her off the bounce game. I think she is a future ACC first team player and one who is going to only continue to see her role expand this year.

I haven't been able to catch UNC much yet. How are things shaping up for you guys to date?

Seems to me that both teams are going through some injury and growing pains right now. I dont think we have seen what the final product will be for either. I think both can be capable of playing for an ACC championship and doing well in the NCAA but they will need to play as close to their peak as possible.

With all the madness of the portal etc I have one question
Why didn't the Basketball Gods give us one more year of Rivers ? Yea I wanted here to be off a couple games a year-but she was so fun

Rivers made the right decision. She was drafted high in the first round and she made the team. Waiting another year was not in the cards. Also, she could get hurt then her chances to make the WNBA would go down.
