How about the Fightins? They let the Dodgers tie it, 6-6, in the bottom of the 8th (poor relief pitching by Robertson). And then they score 3 runs in the top of the 9th. Duran now in to get the save.

Great win but this bullpen is a real concern for the playoffs. As a group they give up a lot of HRs. Offense has been bailing them out lately but that's not a satisfying recipe for the playoffs.

starting to believe
You might as well go full bore. What’s the downside? If you end up disappointed, that’s that, nothing you do now is going to affect the level of disappointment you feel.

Don’t try to over analyze things. I did that myself during the 2019 Nationals World Series run and I realize now I should have gone optimistic full blast. Embrace the opportunity.

Happy for him

Good for him. I recall the year they took him #1. Just like the Sixers’ Ben Simmons year, there wasn’t a great standout player. That created a lot more pressure for Moniak.

He clearly had a lot of talent and tools. Good to see him having success.

Once the MLB playoffs start, an entire season of work can either be validated or disregarded, depending on whether a team advances. Philadelphia Inquirer sports columnist David Murphy, who used to be the Inquirer beat writer for the Phillies, has a nice article in today's Inquirer, which ranks the NL teams that the Fightins should most fear in the NL playoffs.

Ben Simmons was considered potentially a generational player as I recall

Yeah, Simmons had it in him to be one of the greatest ever. Very rarely do you see any player have the kind of mental blocks Simmons had about his shooting. There’s nothing to becoming a good shooter. (I myself was a dead-eye from deep, a one-trick pony but I would put on a show shooting by myself on the North Hall courts.)

IF he could develop a jump shot. His shooting was widely panned coming in.

He was not seen as a surefire superstar. His playing motivation was also a question mark. We saw how that all played out. Sadly.

2016:
Sixers took Ben 1st overall
Phils took Mickey 1st overall
Eagles took Wentz 2nd overall
Who predicted that Mickey would be the one hitting his stride and not labeled a bust in 2025 ?

* in 2017 the Flyers drafted Nolan Patrick 2nd overall.
None of the above 4 made much of an impact in Philly unless you factor in what Wentz brought in trade returns.
