weird play. the Marlin's RF leapt to try an catch a drive by Kepler. He kind of fell when he landed, and it looks as though his right knee slammed into the metal at the bottom of the fend (or the concrete that it's on). He's in a lot of pain, and getting tended to by a lot of trainers and medical personnel.

Edit: they eventually lifted him onto the cart, and he's being driven off the field. A medical guy is walking behind the cart, and holding/supporting the leg so that it doesn't move.

I missed this - how did Otto Kemp end up with Sanchez's 200th strike out ball? Then he tossed it in the stands??

Not a Phillies post, but a baseball post not worth a separate thread. Guardians batter squared up to bunt against Skubal and the ball (fastball) hit him right between the eyes/top of nose. Ugly

Here it is:

I suspect JT threw it to Kemp after a dropped third strike, or it went around the horn and Kemp didn’t understand the significance.

That said, I thought the Phillies base running tonight was atrocious, but the Marlins are inexplicably worse.

Ugh, Duran gives up a HR in the 9th inning, and the Fish tie it up, 3-3. (They never should have scored the 2nd run, but a Bader throw to 2nd short-hopped Weston Wilson, Wilson didn't move off the bag, and the ball got by him, allowing a runner at 3rd to scamper home.)

Robertson is going to raise a lot of blood pressure in the post-season. He was pulled one batter too late. Why was Banks not in for the first left handed hitter? We've seen this too many times with the manager.

Kerkering with a bit of misfortune in the top of the 10th. He had 1 out, and 1st & 3rd, and gave a weak single on a swing that broke the bat of the hitter. Then a cue shot in the infield where they only get a force at 2nd, so a 2nd run scored. Then a stolen base, and an error on the throw by Marchan to 2nd, allowing the runner to go to 3rd. Kerkering gets the 3rd out, so 5-3, Fish, headed to the bottom of the 10th.

The Fightins get 2 straight outs, on two straight pitches, on hard hit balls to the outfield. Then Bohm hits a single to center, driving in Stott. Fish make a pitching change. 2 out, men on 1st & 2nd, and Casstellanos to pinch-hit. He's quickly down 0-2, then works the count to 3-2, and then hits a single to left, scoring Stubbs (who came in to pinch run). 5-5, Fightins, 2 out, men on 1st & 3rd. Marchan at bat. Casstellanos steals second, so 2nd & 3rd. Marchan strikes out on a 2-2 count, so we're going to the 11th.

bottom of the 11th

- ground out to 2nd by Kepler, so Marchan goes to 3rd
- hard hit ball by Wilson to 2nd, Marchan has to hold, and Wilson is thrown out
- bouncer to the pitcher by Stott, and he's barely thrown out at 1st

Phils lose, 6-5, after leading 3-0 after 7 innings. smh

Positives from last night:

1. Realmuto X-rays negative - get him some rest
2. Dodgers lost so bye magic # is 1
3. Weston Wilson hopefully convinced Rob T that Wilson should be nowhere near a playoff roster
4. Sosa is back and Turner is now taking BP

This bullpen continues to struggle. While no pen is perfect, they’ve fallen back to their leaky ways enough that fans should worry they’ll negate the Phillies starting rotation advantage vs most playoff foes.

At least the Dodgers also seem to have similar issues. San Diego is the team I fear most in the NL.

Didn't take the NL very long to figure him out.
The Duran HR wasn’t about the NL figuring him out. It was about him hanging an 0-2 fastball out over the heart of the plate.

It was a bad pitch. It happens, but was unfortunate that Robertson gave up 2 runs the inning prior. A 2-run lead there and they win despite the solo HR.

Duran is a strength not a liability. The rest of the pen stinks.

Pitch count be damned - we need to ride our remaining good starters. They’ll be rested. What I wouldn’t give for a horse like Carlton, Shilling or Roy right now - guys who could throw 120 and give the bullpen a night off. (This last sentence should be filed in the “no ****” category)

Those guys would never be allowed to throw 120 pitches today. Guys throw too hard anymore to risk doing that.
