No they're not. They're saying out loud that he's the favorite and should win, and sugar-coating it with "am I crazy to think this?". (BTW, anybody who asks that question already knows the answer.)

This is no different from people thinking Cochran is a better HWT option than Mirasola despite losing to Mirasola every time and weighing almost exactly the same. Shiny toy.

You're also putting words into my mouth. I never said Cochran's win wasn't a good one. I have always said it's poor standalone evidence of his future success for a lot of reasons -- primarily because duals are easier than tournaments, secondarily about Slavikouski's limitations -- let's face it, he wasn't exactly Michael Beard out there scoring points left and right.

Speaking of Beard, that same year Cochran got crushed by Beard and Cardenas. Those don't matter at least as much?

But yeah, it's just the Scuffle. Apparently I need to re-re-repeat myself: he can win this. He's not the favorite but can win.
I did not realize I was sugarcoating my personal opinion by asking if it was crazy...I got by answer by the way, per you it is crazy. Per others it is not. I like to think I have been level headed since joining this board. However, I am not a big fan of you and your incessant need to tell others why your opinion is the correct opinion But, I respect your knowledge and experience which, I assume far exceeds mine. I still, PERSONALLY, consider Cochran the favorite to win this particular tournament but I am not saying he is a messenbrink level favorite either lol.

P.S. When someone asks " am I crazy" in thinking something, they do understand they may have an opinion that doesn't line up with the consensus opinion. However, they also feel like they're not alone in having that opinion. That was shown well here with people agreeing with me, and you not. Tell you what, next time I'll just say " am I the only one who thinks X will win" so as not to upset you. Then you can tell me why I'm stupid and others can say they agree. Problem solved.

Happy new years!

El Jefe posts really good stuff and I usually enjoy the input, but he is 100% the Blue white version of what MSU is on the Hawkeye board. You should not have views that differ from his.unless you want a verbal beat down. I thought you were very reasonable in your post and it was clear that your intention was to ask if your thoughts were valid in any other person's mind. That is only allowed if he also thinks that is valid it would seem. I need to go brace myself for the beating I'm going to take for daring to have my own independent thoughts.

There might be some similarity, but El Jefe isn’t even close to the level of insufferable prick that MSU reaches. LOL.

Assume you mean Friday and Saturday right?

+3
The 2026 Southern Scuffle wrestling tournament is scheduled for January 3-4, 2026, at the McKenzie Arena in Chattanooga, TN, hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga (UTC). Presented by Compound Sportswear, the NCAA college wrestling event will be streamed live on FloWrestling and tickets are available through sites like AXS

I think Saturday and Sunday are the 3-4? But I be using a calender from 1985.

Happy New Year to you too!

I'm willing to be persuaded as to why Cochran should be the favorite. Here's a hopefully reasonable question: Mullen is more accomplished at HWT -- that shouldn't be controversial by looking at their careers. And this year he beat the same Carroll who beat Mirasola. Why wouldn't he be the favorite in this field?

If the answer is: because Colbert beat him at NCAAs last year, that's a pretty good reason -- but then why wouldn't Colbert be the favorite?

This should be a good test for Nagao. Two top-10 and 7 ranked wrestlers at 141.

Is it crazy to think Aaron could win this?
I would doubt it, unless he has figured out how not to give up his legs so easily. I was at Black Knight Invitational and he was in constant counter mode. That will eventually cost him against quality opponents. I understand that he was working back from injury but it was issue last year also . Being up a weight makes it worse for him to neutralize the opponents leg attacks .

Enjoy reading remarks from both of you and hope differing opinions don't impact frequency of expressing them. Hoping you both have the best of new years

Like to see him turn more guys when he has double boots in, if he can figure this out watch out.

I think it’s fair to say if Lucas wins southern scuffle he at least has to be considered for some of the B10 slate. Sometimes a guy just has your number in the room. I think we all, staff included wonder what if Cassar went to nationals instead of Shak
I really don't think Cassar could have made weight for three straight days and retained his strength.

Cael doesn't seem like the type to spend a lot of energy thinking about what might have been. As fro Shak, he had something like 3 wbf and 2 md at the Scuffle that year. You don't pass up that bonus potential.
