Well we meet again. Mooresville will make the trip down to Myers Park (first time I think) to face the Mustangs. Both teams come in with 4-1 conference records. Blue Devils riding a 4 game win streak. This is a playoff rematch from a few years ago when the mustangs came to Mooresville and upset the blue devils. Blue devils are led by a very strong defense and a good running game. I don’t know a ton about MP but I think they are the same. I know they have a strong QB and that could be the difference here. What’s his name… Lenhoff?

Mooresville played a decent non conference schedule (Hough, Davie Co., Providence) but wasn’t that competitive vs any of those 4A teams. they were also smoked by Hickory Ridge within their own conference. but one could say they’ve gotten better as the season progressed against the rest of the GM4A. they’ll be facing another quality 4A team this Friday. if they can get the pass defense shored up, and stop shooting themselves in the foot on offense, then maybe they’ll give MP a game.

Hard to say with this game other than what kind of night each team is having. Perhaps the team with least mistakes pulls it out. I will just say I’m pulling for the Bluedevils.

I wouldn’t say smoked by HR… a blocked fg from it being a 21-16 game at the half. The difference was the 3rd qtr after the fg block TD right at halftime. We were the only conference team reasonably competitive with them

Myers Park should move on, having a little too much for Mooresville.
Operative word is should. On paper, the Parker Myers All Stars should be a little too much for most teams in the state. However, they have managed to play to the level of their competition week in and week out. Squeaked out a good win against Cardinal Gibbons, close wins against Kell and Olympic. Losses to South, Richmond Co. and a good Georgia team. They have the talent to go deep. They have the mentality to wash out early. Will depend on which team shows up. Pulling for Mooresville and an early washout.

Agree. That’s why I said “should”.

If the defense shows up the way it did last week we can hang around and see what happens. If now, long night. We dont have the offense to out score MP in a shootout

Ok now my prediction, after studying both teams this week I could see a defense struggle in this game. I’m going with the home team in this one winning 2-0.

35-7 Myers Park

I think it’ll be one of those game where the score will look worse than the game. I just think we are going to have a hard time moving the ball. We absolutely will not be able to run the ball on MP, and we haven’t shown the ability to really sling it consistently vs the teams with strong defenses.

It never fails, playoffs aren’t a never ending struggle for us. At this point it’s got to be mental. We are a habitual 1 and done, and it’s depressing lol

Mooresville is 2 for 6 passing, for -6 yards. Now I’m not a genius but that won’t win you many games lol

yeah, i wouldn’t be too hard on Mooresville. they had a decent season and finished second in the GM4A. but they just didn’t have the horses to compete with the big boys in 4A. MP wasn’t a good draw for them and was clearly better at nearly every position.

For sure. What was noticeable this season was the progress made week to week. It’s a growing team still. I’d still argue this is one of the best staffs we’ve had in a while… their ability to make strong halftime adjustments has been really noticeable this year. I’d argue we were the better team in the second half last night, or at worst equal. We just dug ourselves too big a hole in the first half.

with all the returning guys we have next year, mixing with a strong JV, I expect we will be better next season.

Does Mooresville still have that incredible fan section? It was number one in the IMECK.

The only concern I have is the same one that’s been holding this team back year after year after year…. Offensive line. Said it for years, if Mooresville develops a really strong offensive line they will be a contender in 4A. We have the skill guys. That’s the one area we lack in order to compete.

Well issue is - We are going have to play with the Big Boys! There is no more subdivisions so We have to figure it out or we will be 1st round wonders every year …. MP was a tough draw but so would of been Butler (Which was who was projected earlier) so Every round will be hard so Whoever wins it Earns it and Also u still going have face teams like Wake Forest, Hough , Vance , Etc to even get to or win a state title

Yep, the small 4a schools have no chance of winning the state title.
