Sounds like he doesn't want to compete for a spot, and doesn't care about winning. Or at least that's what I take from a Kentucky decision. Oh well, at least it wasn't Auburn, A&M, Ole Miss, or anywhere else that he would make a big difference.

reminds me of Leon Mackey last year from Hinds

Former EMCC D-line coach is there. It would be an absolute shocker if this happened.

it was between us and Tennessee for him and he signs with Texas Tech out of the blue. Z Smth was between us and TAMU and he signs with Kentucky. JUCO recruiting seems to work a little different than high school recruiting for sure

signed with Kentucky...

Stoops had recruited him heavily at FSU -- then hired his EMCC position coach. This was always a possibility. Good get for UK though and good luck to him.

Well Mackey's situation was simply...

he didn't want to stay in JUCO another semester which he would have had to do if he signed with ANY SEC school. And while the Z. Smith choice seems a little out of the blue I guess it makes sense that he is following his DL coach to KY and that Stoops recruited him while he was still at FSU. Only question to me is why are you wanting to go play at the worst program in the SEC right now? Guess his personal relationship with his JUCO coach trumped that issue.

And a good example of why not to get worked up over this. Mackey's stats for this year at Texas Tech. 5 tackles, 1 assist, no sacks. He was a 4* recruit and that's all he put up.

So you're saying Smith is just like Mackey before he even takes a snap?

If he's going to turn out like Mackey, why was MSU going to the trouble to recruit him?

This post illustrates why internet slap fights can never be won.....

I have no clue how you can derive that out of patdog's post. You literally cannot comprehend.

On the other hand, you act like you called Smith's commitment because you made a post where UK hired an EMCC coach.

Arguing for the sake of arguing I suppose. You and Coach34 are meant to do this forever, like Batman and Joker.

No. I'm saying that a lot of these recruits that everyone is fawning over are going to turn out to be complete busts. And very few of them will really live up to the hype they're getting right now. I have no idea which category Smith will fall into, but the odds are he's not going to turn Kentucky's defense around and he wouldn't turn ours around if we had signed him. Whoever we sign instead of him will likely have roughly the same chance of being a good player as he has.

Not arguing at all. But I do find it interesting that patdog only took the time to present stats from a JUCO guy who didn't pan out and chose not to offer up stats from a guy who did pan out.

Because he chose to focus on the bust in a thread about a kid who shunned MSU, its plausible to draw the conclusion that a MSU fan was comparing him to - or at least hoping he turns out to be like - Mackey.

Or maybe I just looked up the stats for the only player mentioned in the post I was responding to out of curiosity, saw how much they sucked, and pointed out that he was an example of why not to get too worked up about recruiting.

Thought I read somewhere that you said nobody gave a rip about UK football. And yet you chose to participate in a thread about a UK football commit. Lot of contradiction from a sage such as yourself.
