ND may be the worst - don’t think they’ve had any players commit to them and have lost 19.

Witfong had a piece (yesterday, I think), indicating that ND was in great shape with several highly ranked portal DL players visiting this weekend. It was a premium article, or I'd link it here.

Money talks, everything else walks.

In minor league football the dollars are moving upward fast. All the economic analysis done a year or two ago are being turned upside down with the explosion of dollars being waved around by so many programs. I doubt the BIG or SEC management expected that so many out of conference programs would come up with the dollars to take kids that the two "major" conferences wanted.

It has surprised me that the the "college" TV ratings have been so good. I underestimated the attraction of minor league football over basketball, hockey and the other cold weather sports.

The fact that the ACC and Big 12 put teams deep into the playoffs may upset the plans of the SEC and BIG to take as many playoff spots as they assumed they would get. They still have more money, but they may well have to spend a bigger chunk of it than they expected, just to keep ahead of their poorer competitors.

I seriously doubt that recruiting will retain the place it has had in the past. Sure they have an impact, but it is obvious that a high school recruiting class no longer has the importance it once had. Indiana is proving that. Penn State may well be proving that next year. Why chase after kids when you can let them play at the smaller programs and then grab them after they prove their value in their freshman year?

In light of the explosion in player "salaries" the continued growth in coaching compensation, and the support staffing increases needed to run expanding administrative tasks in the business side of football, the pool of money that the BIG teams expected to be swimming in is fast evaporating. It may be a very good thing that efforts to tie up a long term media contract were blown up by a couple schools. Programs will need to negotiate more money to break even.

Maybe a Mormon who took a few years on one of their missions?
He started college in 2019. Used a regular redshirt, medical redshirt, COVID year, then another medical redshirt in 2022 after being hurt just two games into the season.

That's correct. He did a mission for two years after high school.
But a mission trip doesn’t count as a college year. If he did a mission trip AND has spent 7 years in college, he has to be pushing 27-28 yrs old. See the article posted yesterday when he announced. He’s used a regular redshirt, two medical redshirts, and COVID yr waiver.

It's clear to me after scrolling through this that the hype for any class signing day is pointless. Three quarters of them are in the portal within a year or two. Who cares where you are ranked.
Correct. Its why the panic over the 2026 class was so laughable

Because it's not minor league football when it's tied to establish fan bases
New league fail because of the lack of loyalty...not due to the product.

Now I will say this - it's obvious we're bulking up the front 7, but can these guys move and be productive? 6'6 335lbs looks great on paper, but can these guys disrupt the OL?
Maybe some of them will be trimmed to the 310-320 range. Not sure of the S&C staff philosophy communicated from the HC & DC.

Are all of these guys transferring to and from schools not Penn State connected to us someway I’m not following why some of these are getting linked
Because it's a thread about the college football portal not just Penn State. Who Michigan and Ohio State (etc) gain and lose directly impact us.

Bingo. We’ve seen big guys in the past get pushed around too.

it really isn't all that difficult to understand. But it requires one to look past simply PSU. While PSU is the team that all of us are most interested in, this is a thread about the CFB portal. With over 3,000 players in the portal (and counting; I don't know what the number is up to), I haven't come close to posting about all of them, or even a large percentage of them.

The posts I make in this thread fall, unless I'm answering a question or offering an opinion, into these categories:

- players from PSU that are entering the portal
- players from the portal that verbal to PSU
- destination of former PSU players when they verbal to another school
- prospects that enter the portal that may be of interest to PSU (prior relationship, from our traditional recruiting area, play a position of need, a player that I've heard PSU is definitely trying to land, etc.)
- lastly, players that enter the portal from B1G schools, or players from the portal that land at B1G schools

The agent fired him and then he agreed to honor his contract. What is the “nuance” here?
The head coach and quarterback were repped by same agency. . Conflict of interest possible and contract signed just before a top tier portal quarterback visits campus. It seems less black hat / white hat event that the headlines indicate.

I was too lazy to go back to the original post to confirm which DT the poster referred to and assumed it was Dallas Vakalahi from Utah. He was in the class of 2022.

I apologize. I must have the wrong guy.

I was wondering about the possibility conflict of interest. If the agent were a lawyer, this would get him disbarred. (I don’t actually know this for a fact but creative license.)

Paraphrasing Eomer, “Look for your friends but do not trust to integrity. It has abandoned these lands.”

Why would it be a conflict of interest?

Maybe not germane to your question but kickbacks for playing time isn’t out of the realm of imagination. This wouldn’t be too surprising, if you stop to think about it.

On the other hand surely in the NBA, for example, there are agents representing both players and coaches. WTHDIK?

Agree, but size matters. You can be an exceptional football player, with a high end motor, but to play in the interior of the line (both sides) requires heft. Past recruiting overvalued twitch versus heft. You need space eaters so that your second level can play clean (clean as possible),

If so then why did he agree to stay? Geez.
