Wagin vs Khaniev on mat C. Lockett needs Khaniev to win

Khaniev looks great and reverses his loss to Wagin at euros with a dominant 10-0 tech. Lockett is still alive. Khaniev will be the favorite in his semifinal so Lockett should get pulled into repechage

Caso scores with about half a second left in the match to beat Singh and make the semis! He’s having the tournament of his life…or at least since 2022 when he made the U17 finals and got beat by Sealey

Duke up on mat B

Duke working his Russian tie. Gets into a scramble but comes behind for a td. 2-0

Back to the Russian into a single and finishes it for 2. 4-0. Duke defends a shot. Goes whizzer but gives up a td. 4-2. Short offense into a leg attack. Gets an exposure and then gives up 1. 6-3

Back to short offense and PJ runs behind on the edge. 8-3 at the break

PJ snaps but Nakaev gets in on a leg. PJ defends and gets an exposure. 10-3. More short offense and another Td and then a gut on the edge to end it. 14-3. Challenge by FRA and it’s won somehow. Nakaev attacks and takes PJ out for a stepout. 12-4. PJ gets to his seatbelt and scores a Td for the 14-4 tech. A bit tougher than expected but still a beatdown. Into the semis!!

Cole vs Gagloev is our last match this session. I had Cole losing this match but after watching Gagloev in his first 2 matches today I think Cole wins.

Rademacher with a dominant 9-1 win! Alizadeh is out of the tournament. Brutal first session for Iran. Mamivand and Alizadeh lose and Elahi will have Duke in the semis
That will definitely help the team race considering Lockett's loss, especially if he gets pulled into repechage.

Man, that Japanese 97Kg kid gassed HARD. Was up vs India 9-0 after about a minute and then the tank was completely dry. Ended up forfeiting in the 2nd losing 12-9. They really should start issuing cautions for failure to return to center, IMO.
And then collapsed on the edge of the mat. He was completely spent

Cole is up on mat b

Hard handfighting to start. Cole drops in on a beautiful double and scores the first td. 2-0

Gagloev is throwing some hard *** clubs. Really tough handfight but not many attacks so far. Another sweet double by Cole and he runs it out of bounds for 1. 3-0 at the break

Boys are getting a bit feisty. Cole in on a low attack but Gagloev sits the corner. Stalemate. 3-0

1:00 left. Gagloev hasn’t come close to scoring. Cole wrestling a really smart match. And that’s how it ends!! Cole into the semis! Likely gold medal favorite now

That’s it for the first session. Duke, Rademacher and Mirasola into the semis. Lockett still alive. Duke has Elahi, Rademacher has Petriashvili, and Cole has Kassimbek. All tough matches but I’m feeling like the US should win all 3. Would be pretty sweet to put 3 into the finals on the first day. I wouldn’t have believed that Lockett was going to be the only guy to lose. Next session at 11:00 eastern
