Lockett up on mat B

Lockett super active off the whistle. Short offense. Out of bounds grounded. Lockett goes single to seatbelt and after a bit of a fight gets the Td. 2-0

another single and he finishes quickly on this one. 4-0 at the break

Kind of weird seeing DT and J’Den coaching together in the corner

Lockett with the same single, brings it up and finishes. 6-0

Again with the lefty sweep single and he gets the stepout. 9-0

I missed 2 points somewhere

Lockett with one last stepout to end it. 10-0

Will have Wagin next

Henckel up on mat C
Actually next match I guess. The Flo graphic has him listed but he’s definitely not wrestling right now

Now he’s up on mat C

No real attacks a min in. Just jockeying for position. Henckel in on shot and runs it out of bounds. 1 +1 for fleeing. 2-0

Henckel with a throw-by for an easy 2. 4-0

Henckel attacks with a beautiful double and blows through him for a clean td. 6-0 at the break

Tabyldyev defends a high crotch, gets behind but Henckel goes quad pod and just gives up 1. 6-1

Henckel with a clean double to make it 8-1

Another double but Tabyldev defends and gets 4. 8-5

Time just ticking away and Tabyldyev not attacking. A few late shots but Will defends easy. 8-5 final

This probably could have been a tech for Henckel. The 5 points he gave up were off his shots where he got in super deep. Just got chest wrapped for 4 once. Needs to clean it up a bit but good to get the first match out of the way

Stanich with a pretty brutal draw. Toprak first round is no joke. If he wins this I’ll feel good about his chances

Stanich up now on mat A

Toprak strikes first with a lefty single. 2-0. 3 guts makes it 8-0. The ref let Toprak work forever from top

This was my concern with Stanich. No real freestyle experience and these foreigners are great in par tarre

Nice snap down go behind for Luke. 8-2 now

Stanich really pressuring now. 8-2 at the break. If he can keep this pace he might break Toprak

Hard handfight from Stanich and he converts a clean single. 8-4

Luke with another Td. Toprak is melting and takes an opportune injury break

Stanich with another go behind and he’s winning 8-8 on criteria. Love the American grit

Luke with a td into a lace and it’s 16-8 Hell yes!! Absolutely broke him. One last td to finish it!! Great performance. Vintage USA

Stanich looked to be soooo close to giving up that final gut wrench for the loss, but what an awesome comeback! And that ref sure did give Toprak A LOT of time on top.

Gadzhibatyrov looked so gassed and possibly hurt his wrist/arm. Connor will gas him if they meet

Jafarli scored late to pull out the win 2-2 on criteria. 3-2 after a challenge

Hopefully, Noah’s success can finally fill the family void that was left after his great Aunt Fawn’s tragic kiln accident back in ‘62.

My pbp for the Lockett match disappeared!

great match. Lockett scores with :03 left to go up 6-5. Gets an exposure with no time to win 8-5. So close to losing but pulls it out. Big win

Will wrestle Yamaguchi for bronze

Henckel up on mat A

Henckel scores first with a stepout. 1-0

Henckel goes single to double. Defends the head pinch and scores a td plus a shot clock. 4-0

Henckel in deep again and scores on the edge. 6-0

Back to the attack and gets a stepout. 7-0

Another stepout. 8-0 at the break

Henckel with one last single to double and a clean finish. That’s it. 10-0

Stanich up on mat C

Stanich scores first with a push out. 1-0

Stanich the bigger guy but Uulu moving him around a bit. Stanich on the clock. Gives up the shot clock point 1-1 at the break

Stanich with a single and converts. Into a lace and gets 2 turns. 7-1 now

Uulu with a nice attack and scores the Td. 7-3

2:00 left. Stanich defends and gets a Td on the edge. 9-3

Uulu pushing hard now but Stanich defending well. :30 left. Uulu can’t break through the defense of Stanich and it ends 9-3. Good win!

Stanich should win his next match and make the semis. Great tournament so far

Knox up on mat B

Knox goes on the clock. Gives up a stepout and then the shot clock point. 2-0. Knox gets a stepout immediately after. 2-1

Knox in on a high crotch and finishes. 3-2. Aitanov challenging. He could have gotten an exposure and Knox a 1 point reversal. Challenge won. 4-3 Aitanov at the break

Aitanov with a td from short offense and then a lace. 8-3

Knox having trouble generating offense. Taking shots but not getting in at all

Aitanov goes single and an easy finish. Then 2 guts and it’s over. 14-3. That was a beatdown

Connor up on mat A. Huge match

Hard handfight early but no attacks either way. Kurugliyev goes on the clock first. Connor scores first off the shot clock. 1-0

1-0 at the break. Connor is going to have to find another point because he will go on the clock soon

Kurugliyev defends a Connor shot and gets 4. Not good

Kurugliyev with a step out to extend his lead to 5-1. And another. 6-1

1:30 left. Connor needs to get going

Connor gets a Td to cut the lead to 6-3. Nice double and a quick finish

Kurugliyev gets another stepout. 7-3

:30 left. Connor with a td but he needs a big move because of the 4 he gave up. 7-5 and that’s how it ends.

The big counter off of Connors shot was the difference. Kurugliyev will likely win his next match and then have Jafarli in the semis to pull Connor into repechage

I've noticed wrestlers having success turning their opponents in par terre by diving their head between their opponents' legs and locking up near the knees. If they are successful with the first turn you will see them try to transition lower on the opponents' legs for a more traditional lace. The Brands brothers used that move in their freestyle careers and I would hope the U.S. coaches are working with our wrestlers on this move.

Kurugliyev is tough. I was surprised, though, that Connor didn't see that throw coming. As I watched live I saw the danger he was in. I think it is human nature as a wrestler to not want to let go if you have your opponent's leg in the air, especially near the edge of the mat.

This has been the move of the tournament. Everyone is using it it seems. Coming back en vogue

Henckel coming up now on mat B. His opponent won U20 euros this year. Should be a good test

This GEO dude is short! Henckel has a good 6+ inches on him

GEO strikes first with a fireman’s into a Peterson type roll. 2-0

GEO with a stepout. 3-0. Kid is a brick *********. Super strong

Henckel with a td to make it 3-2

Henckel with a throw by for another 2. 4-3 at the break. Fun first period

Henckel scores 1 off a stepout. 5-3. Could have been 2 I think

GEO answers back with a td. 5-5

2:00 left. Lots of action. Both guys getting after it. Henckel with a nice single and converts for 2! 7-5

Henckel gets a Td to increase his lead and then a Turk for another 2. 11-5. GEO reverses for a point but that’s how it ends.

The pace was huge. GEO definitely wore down. Nice win and into the semis

How about helping a guy who just rolled out of bed with a score
