The 49ers have signed undrafted rookie linebacker Kevin Snyder to their practice squad, his agent said.

Snyder (6-2, 238), who played at Rutgers, was released from the Lions’ injured-reserve list Oct. 13. He was signed by Detroit in May and sustained a hand injury in their second preseason game. Snyder, who is fully recovered, had a workout with the Giants last week before he signed with the 49ers today.

At Rutgers, Snyder dealt with a turf toe injury for most of his senior season and had 64 tackles in 11 games as a middle linebacker. In 2013, he finished second on the team with 96 tackles. Snyder, who was an academic All-Big 10 selection last year, ran a 4.54-second 40-yard dash at his pro day.

The 49ers are likely viewing Snyder as an inside linebacker.
