If Grimsley goes up early and New Bern is trying to "mix in the pass" It could spell trouble for the Bears. Especially if its obvious passing situations and Grimsley is able to see it coming. New Bern needs to mix in the pass when Grimsley least expects it. IMO. Most likely Grimsley will stick an extra kid or two in the box early anyways. If New Bern wins the toss, they should probably elect to receive the ball first and try to go up with a score first. I could be wrong, but If New Bern falls behind on the scoreboard, it might be tough to win trying to run, and being out of a comfort zone.
This is exactly what I’ve thought the last two weeks but NB hasn’t needed to pass.

I'm not worried about this game at all.
Port, If New Bern could go 16-0 in 2014 with just "average RBs and an average O-line" with Mike Hughes all year year and also beat a great Charlotte Catholic team for the ship, then this year's team should beat the Hell of Grimsley. You wonder why people piled on you back then, yet you continue to make asinine statements like that on the regular about the Bears?? It's a different year, but the smug comments remain the same. Be glad the others are gone from this board. If they were still here, they would have a field day with you right now.
Almost every starter on that entire 2014 team stepped up in different games when needed. That's what made them great. Mike absolutely went off on your team, as he did against many others, but when he was injured for a few games the Bears still straight up smoked every team they played. Did you happen to see those games? They were deep and talented and played as well with one another as any New Bern team I and many other New Bern fans have ever seen. Your comments about them are offensive. You've always complimented on one hand and degraded on the other. It's disgusting.
Go Bears!
Geeze, here we go again. NB was pretty much the standard in the East back then. They just reloaded every year. They were always loaded with talented underclass men. I have always compared NB to the bar they set. That 2014 was not a great NB from top to bottom but they were good and had an NFL athlete. That is what took them to the next level. They won it all and I congratulated them. Then the bottom dropped out.

With all due respect, those teams were all rated significantly lower than Grimsley.
I agree, but I still thought the same thing. For the past month I have been saying that I just don’t think a team can simply run the ball down everyone in 4As throats. Usually you run into a team that can slow it down and score themselves but NB has rolled everyone except Jordan would had a very poor defense.

If there is a front 7 this year that is good enough to stop a rushing attack, its Grimsley's. Ask Catholic.

Based on every ratings website in existence. Calpreps, Massey, Simmons, heck.. even the Rankings posted everywhere.
So, by a ratings system and not by folks actually watching the games, right? The teams we've played have been pretty damn good, but I get the western teams are more well-known.

Then Grimsley should win easily. New Bern is going to do the ole "dance with the girl that brung ya" routine tomorrow. I know it's unusual to see this in 4A but you're not going to teach an old dog new tricks in game 16. NB will mix in some shot throws if the line of scrimmage gets crowded. I thought CC had some success rushing with 200 yards on the ground.

Most folks dont travel enough to be able to watch games from both sides of the state. So, it's only natural to look at, not just one, but all the ratings outlets and what not to see what's going on.

"Some success" and "200 yards" usually isn't enough for a team that keeps it on the ground 90-98% of snaps. All I'm saying is I hope New Bern can do enough to be competitive in this one. The last thing I want to see is Grimsley winning by 21 in a state title game.

"200 yards" is half of what we average on the ground but CC also threw it 20 times which decreased the total rushing yards. They had some success running up the gut but we'll have 3 guys that will touch the ball in various formations both inside and sweeps outside as we have some speed. We've played some good teams this year, looking forward to adding another one to the list tomorrow.

I hate to say it but I think Grimsley beats New Bern down. I hate it cause The GSO All Stars could use a big piece of humble pie after how they act after they get other teams players. But it is what it is. With all the things I've seen ot Grimsley doesn't turn the ball over I'm thinking

GSO All Stars 38
New Bern 17

Rain should be clearing up a few hours before the game with a small chance of showers during the game.

I know some may be tired of me addressing this, but in my opinion Grimsley’s defense is the key and the wild card in this game. Up until now their offense has had to bail them out in these playoffs. Could they or will they have to do it one more time? We’ll see.

This game like most is going to be decided in the trenches. I don't know the answer so i'm asking and I haven't seen Grimsley's O-line. Are they good, great? It seems both teams have a great D-line and New Bears O-line is nasty. It should be a great game. I'm not sure if it will be a shootout but expect it to be one.

Grimsley has a very good O line.

Just one more question as we look toward tonight's game. What in the heck is a whirlie?

In the 1920s they were called the Purple Whirlwinds. Space cramped newspaper writers began to contract the name and by the late ‘40s Whirlies was pretty universal and pretty unique. I believe there is a middle school Iowa that has the name as a piggyback to Iowa State bling.
