Looks like the NCHSAA will be going to 5 classifications, starting in 2021. This makes things interesting.

My guess is yes. Can’t see them turning away all the money they raise in 3 more football state finals (if anything, they’ll add 2 more and make more money). Maybe they’ll look at separating charter schools/non-traditional schools as a classification, but I doubt it.Still subdividing ?

Que Tucker’s intent is to have five playoff categories, with no subdividing, according to the article. Time will tell.Still subdividing ?
Yeah, something close to that. I can see the 2a going up closer to 800. In the ADM's in the fall there were around 52 schools with enrollments at 1800+. I'd say they'd probably drop the largest 5A number a little to around 1600ish. That'd put the guestamated classes:1a 0 to 500
2a 500 to 700
Probably be something like this in the smallest 2 classes.
Maybe it will be 1a-4a with the 5th being a non traditional class.
NCGA won't allow them to put the charters and non-traditonal in their own division. Can't touch Phil Berger's money pit.
1600+ for 5A will create a huge discrepancy. Myers Park has 2700 kids.

Its would be great to know who is in each class at the start of the years.
As I said a 1A 2A 3A 4A 5A & 6A with no dividing to A & AA in the playoffs ! 5 divisions SUX and it is better the way it is now. or 6 divisions. Getting rid of the charter schools/non-traditional schools would be a better first step !1600+ for 5A will create a huge discrepancy. Myers Park has 2700 kids.

Schools like Forsyth Co. Open enrollment private schools that have no boundaries or if you want to call them advantaged schools that can do what public schools can't.The same thing that has been complained about for as many as 15 years. It has now become almost Taboo to talk about.Six is great for football but not so much for the other sports. There is good parity in non football sports with four classifications.
The big question on your last sentence is what is a "non traditional" school? A lot of people think it is any school that allows students live outside the geographical district to play sports with very few exceptions.
2000 would make for some travel issues. 2 in Forsyth County over that figure and probably 2 In GSO. So those 4 schools hit the road to CLT or Raleigh. I’m thinking more along 1800, which is about 4AA.To be honest 5A should be 2000+ and those schools are going to be in Charlotte and Raleigh areas with a few exceptions.
It all depends on if they want to split things evenly at 20% across the board or not. That split would probably drop the 5A number lower (more like 1600). If they keep it at 1800 or 2000 that would put 5A around 14-15% of the total membership, give or take.2000 would make for some travel issues. 2 in Forsyth County over that figure and probably 2 In GSO. But you’re right, outside those 4, the rest probably does reside in Charlotte and Raleigh.
With all of the charter schools anything less than 20% even split will drop the 1A cutoff. A 15% or 17% cutoff could swing the 1A cutoff number down to 400-450I could see them doing
1a 17%
2a 22%
3a 22%
4a 22%
5a 17%
Or
1a 15%
2a 22%
3a 22%
4a 22%
5a 19%
I think 17% will be about 500.
In that case, in the East Central 2A, Wallace-Rose Hill, Midway, Goldsboro, James Kenan and Spring Creek will be 2A, Clinton and East Duplin will be 3A.Yeah, something close to that. I can see the 2a going up closer to 800. In the ADM's in the fall there were around 52 schools with enrollments at 1800+. I'd say they'd probably drop the largest 5A number a little to around 1600ish. That'd put the guestamated classes:
1A - less than 500
2A - 500-800
3A - 800-1200
4A - 1200-1600
5A - 1600+
Again, that's a very rough guess just quickly scanning through last fall's ADM's. They will have somewhere in the neighborhood of 80-90 schools per classification.
Or why doesn't the NCHSAA do like other states and have classifications for each sport: 5A for football and traditional 1A-4A for the other sports?
