Wow nothing like another ESCC on ESCC game will be the 3rd ESCC team eliminated by another in the 3 weeks

Some things to consider:

St. Laurence scored 70 pts. against Bishop Mac....a team that beat Provi.
Normal just beat MS by 3 TD's. Normal's only loss this season was a 20-pt loss to Peoria, who is a 5A quarterfinalist.
LWW has played a great schedule....losing two close games to 6A quarter finalist LWN and 8-2Thornton.

Can't say Naz/JCA winner will unequivocally win 5A.

When you have a 400 team conference, shite like this happens. Or should we just give byes to the ESCC to the semi's?

Naz-JCA is going to be a heavyweight match. St. Laurence is going to be favorite against either beat up team.

I know this. Montini won't run into any other CCL Green rivals in the playoffs.

11-0 in the CCL-G or ESCC. Don't see much of a difference between the schedule they had this year and the schedule any team in the ESCC had this year.

You don't eh? What impresses you most about Montini's schedule? The crossovers against Rita, Leo and Joe's? It can't be the divisional games against De La Salle, STF, Fenwick and Marmion, since none of those teams qualified for the playoffs. Look....I think Montini is very good this year. I picked them to win 6A. In addition to a regular season schedule that was not as difficult as many expected....(did you see the Normal / MS score this weekend?)....they've had a very easy draw in 6A. PR will be a challenge in the semis, and if they win that one, whoever advances from the South will be a big challenge as well. But, they skated with an easier than expected regular season slate and have benefited from a great draw to the semis in 6A North. This year....no one from Montini should cast aspersions on the ESCC or any other conference schedule.

JCA maybe beats them, so I'll say 10-1.

JCA manhandles them up front, since you're clearly trying to start a flame war with Naz I'll leave that alone. Marist and ND would present problems too. Montini would he favored in maybe all those games but I'd say they'd drop one.

No flame war attempted, just calling out the whining. If you don't want to face conference teams in the playoffs, don't be in a conference with 10 teams. I saw people crying about Marist-NND. They make 8A and 7A 1-32 and people still complain...

I think it's more calls of frustration than whining. At least on my part, and it mostly deals with the fact the IHSA went 1-32 for 7 and 8 and not the others. I think whining is more of woe is us etc while the ESCC replays are like ugh really...i loved the experience of playing new teams, seeing new stadiums....

who knows...

JCA manhandles them up front,.

I hear this every year about JCA and it's justified. JCA is great up front and I know all the great lineman your talking about on JCA.

Montini's DT and DE are not well known but the DE has played outstanding all year and the big 310-pound DT has played outstanding the last 3 games. Plus JCA has at least 1 lineman playing both ways which is not a good thing. I know Montini's lineman, if healthy would do well against this years well-known lineman at JCA.

My only worry would be containing Michael Johnson just like trying to contain Ivlow in the past.

1-32 seeding may help, but not eliminate intra-conference playoff games. In rd2 and qtrs DVC teams square off for 2ñd time this season.

WV beat NV and next WV plays NC.

This is why my version of the perfect playoff system included the following...

1. 6 classes

2. 1-32 seedings without any geography considerations

3. matchups done in a way in which it would be least likely for two teams to meet a second time during the year or at least not until the finals.

There are very limited number of football games played each year and I rather not see two teams play each other a second time unless it's in the finals.

That's no fun and to predictable unless you have private schools included from all the surrounding states in a regional championship.

funny how it turns, I'm not sure we've ever lost to those teams (not sure we ever played driscoll).

No, JCA never played Driscoll but Sharp did bring the team to Driscoll to play a 7 on 7 one time. I remember it being like 90 degrees out that day in the summer and it was quite a show put on by both teams.

Many of the DC players took off their shirts and it was like a skins vs shirts game. Even though it was a 7 on 7, both teams got physical with each other. You could tell they really would have liked to play a game that day.

I remember it being the year after Greg Turner graduated from Driscoll because he was at the scrimmage watching it that day.

After STL round one performance against Rich Central, I wouldn't say a win over Tinley is automatic.

I love, love, love, love this quote by a typical Mount Carmel alumnus, please allow me to retort.....

Thank you captain obvious! Yes the score was closer than most expected, so thank you for your expert observation/opinion. I find it is quite amusing, that a MC alum decides to weight in or take a jab at another CCL program right after his own beloved team got bounced. I ask you Mr. Expert, is Brother Rice suspect too because they didn't blow out South Elgin in round 2? I'll answer that for you, NO SIR, you know why? Because in the playoffs, a win, is a win, is a win and Rice like Laurence did what they needed to to get out of an uncomfortable situation, it's called over coming adversity.

I was at the St. Laurence/Rich Central game so I will add a little more depth than what you provided. RC had a nice backfield and a strong game plan which included miss direction & capitalizing on their team speed, good move on their coaches part! STL's special teams had numerous missed opportunities in the 1st half; they botched an extra point, missed a very makeable FG, had a KO returned for a TD and another Olympian return that set up a score. If they can shore up special teams and not put their defense in short field situations they can play with anyone in 5A, including the ESCC teams mentioned. That's what their coaching staff did at half, and they allowed 7 2nd half points and their offense scored 14, game over.

The only portion of your one-liner that I agree with is you saying, "I wouldn't say a win over Tinley is automatic," because that would be taking a shot at the Titan program.

A win, is a win, is a win in the playoffs and me being an STL fan will take it anyway possible, it's been a long time coming!

Best of luck to Loyola, Rice, Montini, & Bishop Mac in the quarters, hope to see all of you in the semis and beyond!

It is too bad this game has to be played in the quarterfinals, but had JCA ended up in the south, the Hilltoppers would have had to have beaten Naz in the title game to claim number 14 anyway. I've seen enough of Lincoln-Way West to tell you the 5A title goes through the winner of JCA-Nazareth. Good luck to both. It should be a helluva game.

I don't disagree with you, but only because the Vikings will be catching the winner coming down after what should be both a physically and emotionally exhausting contest. Not to mention the fact the winner could come out of the game with banged up players. These two teams are going to knock the you know what out of each other for four quarters. I still think the winner will have enough in the tank to get by the winner of TP-STL in the semis.

I'm pretty sure that the IHSA won't present the 5A trophy in LaGrange Park Saturday. There will be 2 more games to win.
