West Stokes did year before last and North Surry did last year. I went there straight after work and didn't have to but my wife and oldest son had to pay $5 or so to get in. I think it's kinda silly to have to pay to watch a glorified practice. I know money is tight and they gotta make a dime anyway possible but anyways...
The zebras get "0" , but booking agent gets a per hour fee and believe me it's not a lot. I promise you that host school will cover that fee with a very few fans. They can't put that fee on zebras.
It's gonna be Us, you guys, Elkin, West and South Stokes, RJ Reynolds, McMichael again, and North Iredell. West Wilkes was in RJR's spot but they had something come up and had to drop out at the last minute. We had to find RJR in a hurry or else it woulda been like year one and rough to do the tourny.
The reason why we bring the refs in is that it helps make everything more legitmate in terms of feel and what not. 7 on 7's can work without them but I like it. Since we do it like a tourny and have trophies it makes since. We enjoy doing it every year.
I asked Lyons about the fees and he said whoever gets the money (I don't deal with refs every week so it's new to me so forgive my naiveness,) charges 100 per hr and we need them for 3 hrs. We can make the $300 if 100 people shows up and the rest if there is a suprlus is spread around. It's a win-win.
It went smoothly for the most part. Every team I seen competed and the weather held up. Heard Elkin even won 1 so that's a plus. Because my schedule was so ragid I was late and couldn't see East or Elkin though which was a bummer.
RJR won, we got 2nd, West Stokes got 3rd, and McMichael 4th in the final 4.
I was proud of the kids they played hard and several new kids got time due to missing starters. I know several teams missed kids too so it just makes these things more interesting.
I'm ready for August though it's gonna be an interesting season ahead.
