QB- Both still throwing well. Tyler has really made the position battle not a battle. Tyler looked very comfortable in the 2 min drills at the end of practice.

RB- Perkins and Robinson both showed their stuff in the passing game today. Milton had some nice runs including a long td. Griffin had 1 drive where he carried it a lot of times back to back, churning out hard yards. If he can fully recover he can be a "work horse" type of back

WR/TE- Still catching well. I think I saw 2 drops today. Bumphis and Jameon had their best practices today making multiple grabs and Lewis had 1 long gainer. If you think Marcus Green was a good pass catching TE, prepare to be excited. It also seems that our outside recievers and slot guys are being used very differently, using the independent strengths that they have to their advantage. I know that seems obvious but the last 2 season they were used like they were the same type of interchangeable position.

OL- Clausell looks a little better every day. D Day and G Jackson are our best lineman and continue to impress. The remaing starters will probably come from this inexperienced mix: C Siddoway, D Robinson, J Malone, B Beckwith. They have all looked good. D Holley just doesnt look very big. I really dont see him starting unless we NEED to move Day to G but I dont feel confident in that happening.

DL- Curtis Virges has really put his stamp on the 2nd DT spot. We are in good shape with D Jones, PJ Jones, D Cherrington, and Quay. Quay still has a way to go but they are staying on him tough making me think the coaches need him too. I still dont see us getting good outside pressure with our DE's. The coaches are staying on Autry big time because he is our only viable threat to get an outisde pass rush right now.

LB- McKinney,Hughes, Cam, and Skinner all continue to impress, especially Skinner. He had 1 "kill the head" type shot today. Bohana also played very well today. We are going to be fine here

CB- The top 3 (Banks,Broomfield, and Slay) are all good, no need to worry about them. Today Jameson Love had his best practice. Looked really good and T Calhoun continues to show well. It was nice seeing the young guys at CB have a good day

S- Looks much better than the start of practice but all they could do was go up. J Hughes and D Arrington were the starters today. Hughes looks much better and Arrington had a couple big hits. Watson had a decent day as well. I'll end this the same way though, we must get Nickoe back 100%

K/P- They were both booting it today. On kickoff drills Egan was consistently putting out the back of the endzone (he did have a wind at his back). All the field goal attempts were accurate with the missed ones being lined up but just short kicks on the long attempts

Extra notes- Very long scrimmage today. 70 snaps for the 1rst and 2nd strings. Biggest crowd I've seen out there as well. When you look at our roster you can really see the depth Mullen is building though recruiting and redshirting. Our 2 teamers may not have expereince but they look like quality football players. Our 2nd string is no longer littered with the bad news bears types. Also, the Kentucky womens tennis team is hot

in the loop.

The most exciting part about our program is in your extra notes. I know people don't like to wait long on rebuilding a program... but once Dan Mullen is in year 5, and his roster is filled with entirely his players (some of which will have been here 5 years), we're going to be a really good team. It seems like he's using the Boise State method, in that he's getting a roster full of potential and making sure that potential is reached. Very much looking forward to the next several seasons under Dan.

I think we fully realize the "roster-stocking" in year 6 instead of 5 because he had to play so many guys as true freshmen in 09 that would today be redshirted. He didn't really get to start his redshirting process until the second season, 2010...

Regardless, we are to the point currently that we have a legit 2-deep everywhere but o-line and db, and IMO those two are one year away from being just as deep...

Mullen has this ship going down the right direction. It would be nice to start getting some pure talent, but he'll have to win more to do that. I do like where we're going though.

We almost passed on Dillon Day. He was a late offer because we were making sure we had room, and he had the grades. Now he's one of our best linemen. I'm glad things worked out.

We were wanting us to give him an offer early in the process.

I agree, I was one of them. He played pissed off. That's the kind of olineman you want.

Malcolm Johnson and Brandon Hill look very good. M Johnson plays more of the detached WR-like TE, great hands. Brandon Hill is very tall and long. He made 2 crazy grabs on Tues. I look for good things out of both. They are matchup problems for most LB's. Rufus Warren hasnt seen as much action but looks like another big long target. He doesnt seem as quick as the other 2 but his blocking has been said to be a strong point of his game. Warrren is probably more of a attached TE type

specifically for Coach34. Tyler seems more natural and comfortable throwing. Their numbers have been similar every practice, but if you go and see it, Tyler just seems better. He throws a better ball and seems more accurate. The flip side is that the play calling has been more suited to Tyler. Dak is not getting all the read pass/run option plays he could execute. Its all pocket stuff. But being that is what Dak needs to work on, its a win-win. Also, Coach34 made a big point that if we were going to be successful with Tyler going forward we would have to change the way we practice and it looks like we have

I'm fine with Tyler being the QB if we make the proper changes to do so. I'm glad to hear we have.

Dak will get the mechanics down and tighten those spirals up. I still believe he will have some type of package come September- he moves to well not to.

In my opinion, we'd be fools not to build around players of Russel's caliber as much as possible. More power to Dak and his development, and I have full confidence that Mullen knows how to use both guys effectively if that's best for the team.

We need to beat one or two these teams.

From these practice reports, sounds like if you get Whitley back, you'll beat all of them. It's only the spring and there are no other areas of concern right?

was I am seriously excited about Josh going to DT and Curtis moving into the NT spot. Curtis' girth and strength are going to help Josh. I kind of felt bad for Josh last year, especially early on in the season. You didn't hear much from Fletcher early because Josh didn't command a double team. There was always a "floating" guard after he got his initial "punch" on Josh to help out with blitzing MLBs, or vs. Fletcher. I even saw in some games (Auburn, LA Tech) where Josh looked lost and frustrated. Now that we have JOsh at his natural position he'll look alot better. Freedawg, Tyler looks alot better than I thought he would. I was one of the people who said that Dak would take the job from him by the halfway point. But I stand so far corrrected. He looked poised and comfortable. The gap between the 2 seems to widen. Nick Griffin looks JUST like I thought. He is a freak! And also Skinner COULD before he leaves be one of the better OLBs we've had here. Now I see what I saw when he was at Noxubee. He's putting is all together! Good report Freedawg!

Still no big bodies at WR that can get over the top.

How will our backs do picking up blitzes? Ballard is gone. All this talk of more pocket passing is great... if we can keep Tyler upright.

Special teams are a huge concern. We've been woeful under Mullen to this point.

Will we scheme better on defense and stop the 12 yard cushion and automatic first down on 3rd and 4?

Corners who can cover are great... but they have to be more physical at the line.

Still.. I get what you're saying. Lots of overly positive reports. Hell, it's almost like listening to rebsports radio around here...

You listent to RSR? Nice.

The consenus on RSR is that if we win 5 games we had adamngood season, with 6 wins being an amazing season. So if you hear a "good" practice report out of them, they are basically saying 5 wins is possible. They have said over and over that our OL is awful and that our RB depth rivals Delta State's. But when they are saying we look good here and there, you have to understand "good" right now means 5 wins. We are currently "good" at most positions, but "bad" (3 wins) at RB and OL. If we get those two positions to our level of "good", then we can win 5 games.

Quit being a typical rebel dick. Nobody thinks we're national contenders or anything.

Woeful? You have a short memory. All you have to do is think back to Croom to see truly woeful special teams. Mullens, while no they are not LSU caliber, has tremendously improved that area. They've won us more than a few games in the Mullen Era. They lost us plenty during the Croom Error.

He's going to be a special player before he leaves. He creates matchup problems, which works extremely well in Mullen's offense.
