That's all. We will get to savor some Miss State football excellence. Maybe that will create some improvement in the posts on this site. Other than the coaching search this place has devolved drastically. One way or the other football will solve that. Enjoy your summer months. I feel like this fall may be gloomy

Gonna be great. We were very close last year to executing the perfect game plan: Score so many points you don’t have to wary about defense.
We got the second part right, just need to improve on that first part of the plan.
You have to feel very confident with a team that only needs improvement in one area.

Football has been a shat show for 2 seasons along with all the coaching drama. Revolving door in and out of the locker room.
Baseball has been a shat show for 4 seasons along with coaching drama. Losses to teams we should coast past, errors in the field and base running. Unexplained coaching decisions.
Basketball DRASTICALLY underachieved, again. The rally cry all season was "we've just got to get respectfully get through the first half of the season and then we'll show everybody!" But, we tanked in the 2nd half of the season and were 1 and done, again.
What do you expect from an athletic message board that has had teams like that? Happiness? Positive attitude? Pat's on the back for the teams?
If your answers to any of that is yes then you seriously need to go see Rosey on that board. This board came about because the other one wouldn't allow any of that sunshine pumping crap.
Seriously, what do you want to see on here?

It's not that bad. A legendary coach died on active duty, Keenum made a huge mistake by prompting an extremely inexperienced D coordinator, we're still trying to dig out. We were coming off a 9 win season and would have had another 9 win season in 2023.

Baseball, were a regional team two years in a row (with a chance to make a home run hire that will set us up for the next 10 years) and each year of Jans' three years we're a tourney team, with our best player returning. Yes, we've underachieved in both baseball and basketball, but no were near rock bottom.

If we can get to 6 wins, or more by 2026, football will be on the right path, the schedule is brutal this season, so as long as we get 4 or 5, it will show improvement.

The next stage of Salmon's career/upward mobility rests on this hire, he's not going to fail, he will hire one of our top 4 (BOC, Bakich, Fitz or Waz). If he misses up this hire, he can kiss bigger jobs (and possibility this one) goodbye, unless Levee makes a dramatic turnaround.

Football, regardless of death, Keenum, Arnett, and "would have's", we have sucked for 2 years and many don't see much better days ahead. It's still plenty to be pizzed about and not sunshine pumping the situation with a bright outlook.

Baseball, bottom of the standings '22 next to last '23. On the road for a regional 2 years in a row with little to no pitching to get us through this year. Again, nothing to be positive about at the moment.

Basketball, status quo. Same SEC record (8-10) for 4 seasons in a row. I don't see anything to be positive about, little to no improvement. If there was any, other teams picked it up a notch or two and stayed ahead of us.

Like I said the point stands, if Howie doesn't want to hear the negative then he needs to hang out with the sunshine crowd in the land of fruits and nuts

We should all be positive about extending the AD who is making strong moves to keep us at that level of mediocrity

We'll win 4-6 games max. Definitely should be improved over last season, but that schedule is ridiculous and it might not show up in the wins we hoped for.

First of all, this place hasn't devolved. Anyplace that brings to the forefront the reporting accuracy of the Cheetah Lounge will never lose popularity in my eyes.
Secondly, yeah football is a toss up. Every year I expect more and get less. Will this year be any difference what the portal brings? Anybody's guess for now, but I wouldn't get my hopes up too much considering the level of competition we are up against. Just show improvement this year. Win one you probably shouldn't - especially if it's Ole Miss - and leave us hopeful.

I have little faith since we didn't go out and hire a real defensive coordinator and put some emphasis on our front 7. Unless Lebby realizes how important that is he won't be successful at Mississippi state. He doesn't have the talent to pretend to be Lincoln Riley and even Riley has suffered because of his defense is trash most of the time.

We absolutely did put emphasis on the front 7 this portal/recruiting year. We added 9 defensive linemen from portal/JUCO. Added 6 LBs including all sec freshman Jalen Smith from Tenn and 4 star Tyler Lockhart.

That's good but I'm not convinced the staff we have will do anything with them

You sheep keep forgetting that he brought in a ton from the portal last year too. Conveniently slip your mind? Or is it still Leach’s fault? Even though Lebby ran off all his guys.

Why do you say that? Are you just merely saying this based on last year results? I mean we added three new coaches on the defensive side of the ball… and as bad as last year was and as bad as the roster was we still competed with ASU, UGA AM and OM who had a decidedly better roster..

Actual he didn’t DA. We had the 17th rated portal class this year… compared to the 45th rated class in 24. We also get Booth back this year that’s like adding a transfer. Brumfield CB who only played in 4 games and had a better PFF grade than Pollock.. return Jackson on the OL from the portal.. as well as get KBJ on the DL for depth as well. The sheep are the ones that can’t see improvement

If we don't see 2 of our offensive linemen blocking each other, I consider it progress
Coaching matters it’s why the same o line was very good in 22 and was awful in 23

I wouldn’t make fun of sledge and Moore. We have to play them pretty soon we shall see

Those two guys couldn’t get in the field at USM last year and now you expect them to be players?? That some take for sure..

As far as OL goes we added the starting RT from UVA, we added a starting guard from Colorado a guard from Stanford, tackles from Purdue and Maryland, centers from UK and UTEP.

Neither of them should’ve ever been on SEC rosters. Awful recruiting by Leach and Arnett and the clowns Leach had in recruiting

You could say that about two recruits on every team in the country’s roster. Fact is leach went 9-4.

These clowns have totally lost the whole idea of kids, especially MS kids, having to develop. If they aren't stars in year 1, they discard them. They think the portal is some magic wand, and fact is, MSU has to develop athletes. If they end up leaving us after their 'breakout' year, it is what it is. We've done it this way every time we've ever had success. And when I say develop....I mean they need to get in a real weight room, eat correctly, learn a scheme whether offensive or defensive, and get used to a structured college environment. Those things still apply to poor rural southern kids.

We've got a rude damn awakening coming Labor Day weekend.

Four coaching staffs…4 have seen these kids play…and they still cannot get on the field at a bottom feeder sun belt school. Think about that. As far as developing players that’s what we are trying to achieve along with adding portal players and we have also expanded our recruiting foot print. You clearly have not kept up with recruiting at all.
And if you think that we are in for a rude awakening against USM then you are dumber than I thought you were

Moore and Sledge had the entire 2022/23 and 2023/2024 Fall and Spring semesters to prove themselves under 3 coaching staffs and failed to. Neither of them saw the field on a 1-11 USM team so why are you and “85Bears” still held up on the fact that those Leach/Arnett players were processed ?
