Since seeding began in 1940 there have been eight instances where a wrestler has beaten the top 3 seeds in a single tournament.

The first four are old so I will give you those.

Can you name the fantastic four who have done it since the turn of the century?

I'll give another clue to help. It can't be a 1, 2, 3, 4, 8, 16, 20, 24, 28 or 32 seed. That should make it easier.
You are missing two. As you can see above und W Seed (for winners seed), it can be the #6 too. Actually three of the four are #6 seeds. It can also be the #9 seed if you want to do some of your work on the back side (the other did).

I listed the seeds who they couldn't be. But you are correct, the #6 is on the bottom half with the #2 and #3. And I wasnt thinking losers bracket victories, so you got me there. I was thinking winning on the bottom half and then meeting the one seed in the final to win the NC.

Ah, reading comprehension. Clearly not my strong suit. Apparently the 't is important.

How do u come up with these? Haha wow Vito and Jaggers seem so obvious now.
Funny you should ask. I will post something more in depth on the topic in the next week or two, but the short answer is it is what I do for a living. Roll around in numbers looking for patterns. Or as my dad called it, torture the numbers until they speak.

The longer answer is that plus I have been helping The Wrestling Guru with a passion project of his. Constructing the ultimate wrestling database. He started with the history of the NCAA tournament. I did a bunch of QA on it and folded in all the tournament scoring data. So now I have that to play with.

The website is operational and has a lot of cool stuff, but the scoring data has not been fully loaded. That should happen soon, hence the in depth post later.

I would highly recommend taking a spin around the website at: The Wrestling Guru NCAA D1 Page
