If Green stays healthy, he is the kind of player that keeps the chains moving all year.
Those WR quick hitters (like the one Bumphis scored on with his first TD) to Bumphis and Heavens should be dangerous all year. Simple and effective AND when combined with the inside threat of Dixon and Relf, you really have something there. This is really tough to stop if you think about it.
That formation with Green in the slot or flexing back behind the OL in an up-back position creates tons of mismatches. if you spread your LB's out to cover Bump and Green, Dixon and Relf kill you up the middle (IF we can get some decent blocking inside). Then you have the added problem of a LB on Green. If they press safeties then you go over the top. Then you always have the option of the sprint reverse to Bumphis. It is amazing how simple it gets when you have playmakers and the common sense to throw a quick slant or bubble screen to your WR.
The jury is definitely still out, but it is amazing how simple this scheme can make it for a player like Relf. Know your reads on the option, be able to throw the short pass and the bomb. That is it. No need to be hitting WRs in between the LBs and the Safetys on a intermediate/deep crossing route, just throw a ten yard strike to Bumphis and let him hit the juke button. I dont think he will have too much trouble running on SEC defenses either (by "too much trouble" I mean he can be successful, not dominate) - he apparently had big running games in all of our scrimmages. I will say this, if I am an NFL scout and I see Relf have a good year, I am bumping Tebow a few more slots down my board.
I will say it all year. Omarr and Jerious would have KILLED it in this offense.
Everyone that has been following this team should know that we could easily get blown off the field this weekend. Everyone should also know that we could beat them if we hit on all cylinders. Who knows how the matchups will play out with Mullen. Jackie's teams got up against Ole Miss and Auburn and tanked against Ark, Croom's boys played better against Bama, Ark and Auburn and struggled with Ole Miss. Everyone gets throttled by LSU. Something tells me Mullen will always have his teams up against Ole Miss, we will have to see about the rest.
