A reminder that Croom never had a winless SEC season

It's a fair point. I'm baffled at how much rope people are giving Lebby. I think it comes from the assumption that no matter who the football coach is, he will be hamstrung by NIL. I think that sentiment is creating an "aw shucks" approach to how we grade him.
My point is let’s let the last 5 games play out before writing the history books. Saturday is a game we can and frankly should win

We're much improved. Yesterday sucked. We'll raise cane for a week and if we win next week, all is forgotten and we'll have people saying we should be ranked. Lose again and this will continue until the next win. Over and over. Same thing. Yall are bipolar when it comes to football. Was that decision yesterday dumb, yes. That's what happens with a time new coach just as it had with Mullen, yet yall all scream to get him back. Just hang on. We're improving. We just need a qb that can connect more times than not on these deep balls and continue to add more depth. We're on the right track, just sucks we started in such a hole.

We fired the only coach to win a national championship in our school's history. We need to apply the same standard to football.

If you are still on this train after yesterday, you have Battered Bulldog Syndrome.
The baseball program was on a pretty obvious downward trajectory when we fired Lemonis.

Last season we lost 6 games by at least 3 scores (including freaking TOLEDO). 3 more were by double digits.
So far this year we’ve lost 1 by 3 scores. Our other 2 losses were in overtime and in the last minute of the game when we were in position to win.
It sucks. Last night hurt like hell. There’s a very real chance we end the season on an 8 game losing streak. But unless some of them (most?) are bona fide blowouts, we’re still headed in the right direction. Year 3 will be put up or GTFO, but he will get it, and deserve it.

First off it feels early to to consider another 0-8 season a lock. We may win a game as soon as this Saturday. The next two weeks are our best chances to break the streak. Say what you want about yesterday, it was a rough ending for sure… we’ve still been a competitive SEC team through 3 games outside of the last 15-20 minutes in College Station. That tells me a breakthrough is still on the table.

Secondly, “Croom never went 0-8”? Well congratulations for going 2-6 with a loss to Maine or LA Tech and 1-7 with a loss to Tulane or Houston. And for having a sub 100 ranked offense every single year he was here.

I beg some of you to rewatch some of our games from the 2000’s and compare it to this season. It sucks lose games you had a chance to win but you know what sucks worse? Being hopeless from kickoff that you will even score a single point.

It’s the typical overreaction. Win a game they aren’t supposed to and then all of sudden they’re going 8-4 and then when they lose one last night it’s the end of the world.

If you are saying Croom was a better coach than Lebby you are one of three things:

1. an idiot
2. A troll
3. A child who didn’t experience the pain that was the Croom era

eta: I misspelled error
Please list out exactly what Lebby has done to this point that would suggest he’s any better? He has one good win (he should thank Brenen Thompson saving his ***). He lost every sec game last year by at least two scores. Got blasted by the mighty Toledo Rockets. He got us close to beating Florida and Tennessee?

No one is saying Croom was worth a ****. But is it asking too much to expect Lebby to win one SEC game in two years? I’m giving him the next 5 games. I’ll use my tickets, show up and ring my bell. But he needs to win a 17n game or I’m done till he’s gone.

Lebby is about to go 2-for-2.

Before last year, our last winless SEC seasons were 2002, 1988 and 1985.

Two in 40 years and about to have two in 2 years.
We had 4 consecutive seasons without a conference win - 1966, 1967, 1968, 1969, and 3 more in 1975, 1976, and 1977.

I suppose it can be argued that those years weren't in the "modern era", but the teams we lost to weren't in the modern era either.

He does need to win a game, and badly. The calls for his head will be very loud if he goes 2 years without winning a conference game.
It would make a hard job even harder. Season tickets would be abysmal. Many donors would withhold money.

The coaches who lost to Croom got fired, except for Tuberville who got fired for 3-2. Lebby may get a couple coaches fired for beating him as well.
If we somehow beat Texas this weekend, we may get Sark fired too. And Arch's salary reduced to zero next year.

Well to be fair, a 6-13 record and 0-11 in conference (where it really matters) with our current administration tends to overshadow the sunshine and bring out the gloom. Do you disagree?
If it was year 4 or 5 and not under a complete rebuild, I would. I don't count last year. Can't put that on Lebby.

I think Lebby had a bad game yesterday, but he's got the players believing they can win every game & not laying down. That's one of the hardest things to do as a coach for a bad program.

What happens when we beat TX next week? Still want him fired?

2002 was an interlocking year. Interlocking comes back in 2023..... hmmmm

States last sec win was wearing a Banner M helmet. State hasn't worn the Banner M in the sec since and not won in the sec since

Beating Texas doesn’t change much for me. I wouldn’t be surprised if the line is less than 5 points or so. It wouldn’t be some massive upset.

If we beat Texas and lose out from there, I’m still not going to feel very good about the direction of the program and could still see a path to him getting fired this season. But it would be moderately understandable if we didn’t pull the trigger. There will be zero goodwill left for anyone at 4-8 though.

It doesn't matter. The teams we played were in the same era we were in at the time.
Its MSU. Losing streaks are timeless for us.

Both trendy/chic and vintage/throwback at the same time. They can come back into style at any time.

You want to fire a coach and go into a coaching search when at least ten different schools that are more appealing are doing a search too. That’s not very good odds on landing anyone decent.
