Well, I was shooting for pithy. All I did was compare to high school careers and you’re gonna come back with that pithy remark? How typical. I’m sure you won’t mind when Shepard is eventually moved to TE.
Why shouldn’t he get a chance to play meaningfully?I said here or in another thread that Shep should transfer as we won't get a chance to play meaningfully here
He only played in one game, Wagner. Bowl games don’t count anymore against a player’s year of eligibility. How many games did shephard get in this year? He can play in bowl and still keep his RS correct?
He said a redshirt would have benefited sitkowski. He said AJ understands defenses and knows a lot about our offense already. Said AJ will be in the mix. He said it’s very tough for a frosh to be thrown in early with a bad team…it snowballs…then went on to say that’s not Rutgers anymore…this program is a lot better.Racioppi kind of covered that with his "the 2nd string QB and the fans" comment. Funny, as he also said Rutgers is really the rule and not the exception. And he made it pretty clear a red shirt year would be beneficial.
Lol insane comment. There are 32 starting qb’s in the nfl. The small state of NJ has 2 of them and they worked with tony since high school. This is a legitimate question, has there been a successful Racioppi trainee in the past 5-10 years? Maybe Pickett and DeVito to some degree?
How do you know this? His last name is Sheppard.Meanwhile, Ajani Shepard, who has the metrics mentioned above and has played vs better competition (beat Bosco BTW) will wind up transferring because he never got a legit shot against the “saviors” GW and AJ.
Does that include FlaccoLol insane comment. There are 32 starting qb’s in the nfl. The small state of NJ has 2 of them and they worked with tony since high school.
Someone else in this thread didn’t spell Sheppard correctly. You didn’t go after him because he agrees with you?How do you know this? His last name is Sheppard.
Who do you think will start in 2024?Why shouldn’t he get a chance to play meaningfully?
No haha. I didnt include tim boyle either. Who wound up starting an nfl game after working with tony. Kid had 1 td and 13 int’s in his college career lol. Started working with tony post collegeDoes that include Flacco
Dodd’s first game wasn’t too shabby….Dodd was a good QB given the OL he had. Not even Tom Savage could handle that, and he played in the Pros.

My goodness do you suffer from small man complex. Holy smokes, was just trying to point something out because you seem to be a fan of Sheppard. Please inform me where I was appointed proofreader of all posts in every thread. TSomeone else in this thread didn’t spell Sheppard correctly. You didn’t go after him because he agrees with you?
Boyle is not his best work.No haha. I didnt include tim boyle either. Who wound up starting an nfl game after working with tony. Kid had 1 td and 13 int’s in his college career lol. Started working with tony post college
Tim Boyle wasnt just a bad college qb, he was an AWFUL college qb.Boyle is not his best work.
That says more about how NFL teams evaluate QBs. He shouldn't have been anywhere near the NFL, let alone starting a game.Tim Boyle wasnt just a bad college qb, he was an AWFUL college qb.
The fact working with tony got him a shot in the nfl after college is just insane. Boyle had 1 career TD in college and 13 INT’s.
Tony isnt a good qb coach, hes a great qb. Alot of the do nothing peanut gallery for reasons unbeknownst to me try to **** on anyone whos even half good at something though. That says more about how NFL teams evaluate QBs. He shouldn't have been anywhere near the NFL, let alone starting a game.
I hope you felt better after that tirade. My goodness do you suffer from small man complex. Holy smokes, was just trying to point something out because you seem to be a fan of Sheppard. Please inform me where I was appointed proofreader of all posts in every thread. T
So why don't you answer the question--how do you know what you portend about Sheppard, with two p's? I will not wait for your answer, because you will come back butt hurt about something else and whine about it. Good day to you.
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand he can't answer the question. He just wants to throw fake little hissy fits over "his" preferred QB. Like clockwork. Merry Christmas.I hope you felt better after that tirade.

well 'experts' get things wrong all the time. It's why I laugh when you challenge Greg's handling of qbs and people tell you he's paid for it so you must know nothing. funnyThat says more about how NFL teams evaluate QBs. He shouldn't have been anywhere near the NFL, let alone starting a game.
Savage didnt play because KC changed the offense when he didnt have the horses to do so and the offensive line was like a sieve which did not suit his skillset as a drop back pro style QB.Dodd was a good QB given the OL he had. Not even Tom Savage could handle that, and he played in the Pros.

It’s up in the air. Spring game should give us an indication.Who do you think will start in 2024?
AJ is a terrific prospect, but should be given this year to acclimate, unless he flat out blows everyone else away.AJ is better than Gavin the day he steps on campus. This is going to be fun to watch! Live this kid!!
I suggest you watch what unfolds this spring and summer before you assume he needs a year to acclimate. I've seen him live more than I've seen Gavin live (and I attend every home game along with an away game each year). I understand it's apples and oranges comparison, but people are going to be surprised at what he can do right away. Kid is very prepared for this...he's a sponge and a worker with a lot of talent. He's what coach looks for in players...a gym rat that loves football. Here we go.AJ is a terrific prospect, but should be given this year to acclimate, unless he flat out blows everyone else away.
I think the kid is terrific and will ultimately lead us to the Rose Bowl. But there’s no need to rush him. The WR and TE Corp will be in much better shape to help him succeed in ‘25.I suggest you watch what unfolds this spring and summer before you assume he needs a year to acclimate. Nobody's rushing him. If he's ready and he's the guy that gives us the best chance to win, then he's not being rushed....he's ready. I belive this will be the case unless the MN qb or someone else with experience comes in. And if that's the case, I'm all for it. What I'm saying to you is this...he's more ready than anyone we've had in a while. Don't be surprised if he wins the job....that's what he plans to do.I think the kid is terrific and will ultimately lead us to the Rose Bowl. But there’s no need to rush him. I’m not his biographer and DeVito is a starter by necessity but thanksLol insane comment. There are 32 starting qb’s in the nfl. The small state of NJ has 2 of them and they worked with tony since high school.
unless the kid would have got there without him... what is that baseball term about comparing to someone to a replacement?no it's not and let's not play with goal posts. Coaching up any kid to D1 is a great success
there are many kids who have the size, abilities, etc to make it to d1 and don't. There are kids who are not born 'lucky' or blessed with the above and do. Much of it for either however, is drive, determination, being coachable and THE COACHING. To your point, there are some who will make it to d1 regardless just by being born blessed with the measurables but will they reach potential without coaching and drive; probably notunless the kid would have got there without him... what is that baseball term about comparing to someone to a replacement?
it may be an accomplishment or it may now.. and that could change case to case
If you haven't seen AJ live, watch some tape. He knows what he's doing...not just a thrower. There are tons of guys that can spin a football, but very few who are true quarterbacks. AJ is the latter. If he was two inches taller he'd be the perfect recruit. So he's not perfect, but will be the best qb we've had in a really long time. This is going to be fun.I had the chance to talk to someone who was very familiar with Art the year he committed to RU - I simply asked if he was the real deal - the answer I got back was “he works hard”. I kind of knew where we were headed at that point. Here’s hoping that Surace’s talent transfers to D-1.
I don’t see how we can head into next sesson without bringing in a transfer qb with some experience. Cannot count on a frosh being ready (though I believe he will be)…it’s not a sound plan. And we all know that if Gavin doesnt make major improvements…serious step change…then we could be messing this up. Coach knows this and it will be addressed.I know this will sound negative but Im hoping to see as little hype as possible about this kid prior to next season. The reason is I don’t expect him to play next season as it’s really rare for a true frosh to see meaningful PT at QB.
I don’t think Shelby is going to be right, but every article that comes out propping a kid up now whose not likely to play before 2025 absent an emergency, I worry about the slight possibility that it means we may pencil him (or Sheppard who didn’t play at all this season) at QB 2 and triple down on gavin. I feel strongly this would be a bad mistake not to bring in someone with experience. We have so many other pieces coming together. We can’t screw this up. At least I really really hope not.

Also - there’s no basis to believe Surace is “ready” to compete at the BIG level until he does it. The level he’s playing against is worlds different than even Temple types. That doesn’t mean he can’t step up and shock but to assume that will happen is crazy.I don’t see how we can head into next sesson without bringing in a transfer qb with some experience. He's ready. It's not ideal to play a frosh, but he's as ready as one can be. He won't take years to learn the offense as some players may require (no names), he's already in the playbook and will be competent by spring game. To me, it's a matter of whether or not we have a transfer who is able to bring us experience out of the gate. This would enable the frosh to develop even more and step into a better situation. But this kid will be ready to go...quite certain of that despite the weak competition he faced in HS. Kid has a qb brain. For too long we've had qbs that either lacked the qb brain or lacked the physical talent...have not had a guy with both pieces. He's that guy. Also - there’s no basis to believe Surace is “ready” to compete at the BIG level until he does it. The level he’s playing against is worlds different than even Temple types.
