People wanted to avoid this because she's a woman, but..................it was noticeable.First thing she should do is get in better shape.

The other 3 may have destinations that are local to there home. Deal, not sure. Ain't in SoCal though. Roster make-up matters. There is another transfer happening too. Deal isn’t the last one.
And what will your thoughts be in MW decommits? Family culture was a big reason she signed here. What is 3 or 4 other young players leave? That along with the team basically falling apart in several of the last games. Not good.Poster says Deals parents have already spoken with her parents.
Iowa is going to lose another rotation player who played this year in the next day or two. This isn’t good. Not with only 1 freshman coming in this class.I disagree, this may open up $1 million per a year. Deal does not have the quickness to be a star. She has a nice shot, she has decent court awarness, handles and quickness she does not have, and it’s going to be difficult for her to gain in those areas.
For those on the Jan bus. What has improved since Jan took over? I really want to hear from you, seriously. Name one thing.
Her difficulties will be her body type. She has much more curves than a Caitlin Clark. Its not like you can just get rid of those. It will always affect her quickness.People wanted to avoid this because she's a woman, but..................it was noticeable.
Eh . . . This is the era of filling up in the portal - and they will have a lot of money to throw at the problem. Who is the other individual? Right now appears to just be rumor mill.Iowa is going to lose another rotation player who played this year in the next day or two. This isn’t good. Not with only 1 freshman coming in this class.
Swarmcast guys said that it was someone in the regular rotation. That’s Hays or Houston.Eh . . . This is the era of filling up in the portal - and they will have a lot of money to throw at the problem. Who is the other individual? Right now appears to just be rumor mill.
Sophie Cunningham does alright. Her difficulties will be her body type. She has much more curves than a Caitlin Clark. Its not like you can just get rid of those. It will always affect her quickness.
If it’s indeed Houston or Hays who leave next are people still going to defend Jan?
I'll tell you what. Lets table this and see what happens in the portal, (both in and out), and what the team looks like next season. Especially if MW did back out, and see if its a big deal or not. Its funny when you look back all the games Deal played really well in she played at least 18 minutes and got comfortable. You can say what you want about earning playing time, but Jan botched managing Deal, and anyone who things she's not capable of ending up a really good player, I'll just disagree. As to who played instead of her in the games we lost, most all of the guards played like crap in most of those games, not just Deal. That sounds more like a systematic problem then it just being on one freshman player. If we lose here we lose her. What was JJ supposed to do, play AD because she was scared she might lose future players.
UCLA loses their entire starting lineup and a couple of rotational players. Gotta be the favorite. Who were her finalists? The other 3 may have destinations that are local to there home. Deal, not sure. Ain't in SoCal though. Roster make-up matters.
Sophie Cunningham does alright.
Sadly, it could be both. Houston did what was asked, not what she wanted. If she goes, that is a real bad message. She was a very committed recruit to this program. Hayes regressed and I never could understand why she did not go to Washington or Oregon. If it’s indeed Houston or Hays who leave next are people still going to defend Jan?
Addie is too top heavyThose are way different body types.
True, BUT. We signed ONE player in the off season. We were already behind the eight ball needing to fill spots. It sounds like several other players will be heading out as well. Jan's got a lot of work in front of her, basically building a whole new team now....You really need to take a look at what's happening in college basketball these days. Teams are losing all kinds of players, men and women. This isn't and Iowa only thing.
If Addie had Taylors heart and grit it might be different. Jan said after bowing oit of the tourney that we need players that can make 3's. After McCann got hurt our perimeter game struggled. This is shortsighted and wrong. She has so much more talent than TS. But she wasn’t developed nor played in a style that leveraged her. At her best this year she was far ahead of TS. Jan didn’t maximize it.
Sophie Cunningham does alright.
I’m guessing you have no real education or experience or background to support this. And “common sense” doesn’t come into play either considering other players with curves who have fared quite well. But it’s a heck of a theory. Her difficulties will be her body type. She has much more curves than a Caitlin Clark. It’s not like you can just get rid of those. It will always affect her quickness.
MW can't back out. She's effectively locked in for a season is my understanding.I'll tell you what. Bases on JJs postgame comments after VA…gotta be Houston. Almost positive.Swarmcast guys said that it was someone in the regular rotation. That’s Hays or Houston.
How she plays and is utilized next year might be critical for the future of Iowa women’s bbball.MW can't back out. She's effectively locked in for a season is my understanding.
You are right, I have seen a kid that was extremely overweight absolutely fly around the basepaths. Easily the fastest player I have seen at his size in short bursts. In general though that is not the case. Deal wants to play a position that is naturally smaller players (lower bmi leads in general to more quickness). She wants to be a point guard when her quickness likely relegates her to a 3.I’m guessing you have no real education or experience or background to support this. And “common sense” doesn’t come into play either considering other players with curves who have fared quite well. But it’s a heck of a theory.
It’s not Jan’s fault a player didn’t pan out her Freshman year. She had a few shining moments but for a high 4 star or 5 star player her athleticism seemed very limited. She was from Cali and maybe just wants to get back to the west Coast and start over. She had a rough finish to the year. If she goes to another high major and blows up then yes, maybe we made a mistake. Kids come kids go.It’s bad but what I predicted. And it’s bad not just because Iowa loses a potentially good player. It’s bad for many other reasons which could impact JJs tenure at Iowa.
The statement was she has already backed out . . . not after next season. How she plays and is utilized next year might be critical for the future of Iowa women’s bbball.
Do you watch women’s bball? Of course you don’t.You are right, I have seen a kid that was extremely overweight absolutely fly around the basepaths. Say what you want - everyone saw what was going on this season. I was very up front about the quickness early on. Yes you can work on quickness and Handles, look at McCabe, even still you can only improve so much.
Sure. Reasonable statement. But there’s a bigger picture that unfortunately will become even more troubling over the next 24 hours. It’s not Jan’s fault a player didn’t pan out her Freshman year. She had a few shining moments but for a high 4 star or 5 star player her athleticism seemed very limited. She was from Cali and maybe just wants to get back to the west Coast and start over. So what? Because they moved to Iowa she gets to play when she wasn’t ready? We played our best ball coming off Deal sitting after the West coast fiasco and moving Stremlow into the lineup. She probably would have had the inside position for the 3rd guard next year but obviously wasn’t happy. Who gives a **** if her bro plays at Grinnell?Parents moved to Iowa. Brother at Grinnell. Just a bad look all around.
Just saying her frosh year at Iowa is going to be super important for a lot of reasons. Another AD situation and I do think it’s gonna be hard for JJ to recover. The statement was she has already backed out . . . not after next season.
You have no idea what “bigger picture” means. Don’t be a simpleminded sports fan.So what? Because they moved to Iowa she gets to play when she wasn’t ready? Wow. I feel like she would’ve been starting next year
That's the problem. Jan's offense isn't going to get great guards to join Iowa.
It doesn't seem like there are any rules anymore. And frankly if she or her parents said we changed our minds, what could Jan do? Force her to come in, not wanting to be here?MW can't back out. She's effectively locked in for a season is my understanding.
