There have been a lot of unfortunate misses, though the players on the team are primarily Bluder's last class. Why Iowa couldn't get elite players to play with Clark is the issue there. Jensen came in, gets some credit for retaining anyone, half credit for Olsen & Deal, full credit for Hays, Houston, Wright, Rodriguez, Woliczko, (and Seubert).

If you blame Jensen about missing on elite recruits, you aren't being very clear-eyed about how this era is going to work.
How it works won’t matter unless the evaluation and development are excellent. It’s irrelevant.

Assuming ER doesn’t pan out, 1 out of 2 for transfers isn’t bad. But the win is a 5-4 point guard.

2 years is 2 years. I get that it’s still a transition to some degree. To elevate into that next level Iowa must attract, retain, and develop more talent. To duplicate this season will require that

Linder said he expected 2-3 more.
That would be Hays, Malaigni, Rodriguez.

That leaves us with:
Chit
Strem
MW
Houston
Heiden

That's still potentially a top 10 team.

I don't know, you admitted that Ava has developed into a nice player. And Ava didn't play much last year.
Absolutely. Huge leap from year one to year 2. But that’s the difference. As an assistant you can get wins and accolades for 1-2 great development stories. She’s the head coach now.

But yes Ava’s development helped mask a lot of flaws and limitations with this roster.

I think she may be overrated there as well. Maybe Ava is just damn good.

Hannah was a warrior but never developed an offensive game at all these last couple of years.

Ans Layla really struggled all year.

I think JJs development of players in general is still a huge question mark.
So Gustafson and Czinano she gets no credit for developing? You’re really serious about some of the stuff you say? Do you think the way our bigs just catch and go up with their great footwork hasn’t been coached?

Whew it’s a lot of hoping. That Journey develops perimeter skills and ballhandling. That MW is ready from day 1 and developed from day 1.

And i don’t love that starting backcourt. Especially at 2g

Developing a player or 2 over 3-4 years is great…if you’re an assistant. Put on your big boy pants. She’s the head coach now.

She's been the head coach for two years now, she was head coach when Ava made her jump. This roster has flaws for sure and AD was one of those flaws this year. Ava stuck around and improved herself from year one to year two. It's too bad that AD didn't want to do the same thing. But we'll never know because she decided to leave.

So you're saying that people need to leave so that new players from the portal can be brought in. Maybe you and JJ are thinking the same thing.

Yeah definitely. But not Deal. And JJ can’t be loyal to Wright and Stremlow if she can find a better starting backcourt.

I said potentially ;)

I really like Houston's game and think she's a rebounding demon.

I feel like MW is very different from Deal in their potential. No shot at Deal and that's not based on her leaving today.

Stremlow is a little worrisome but unless the offense changes it will be just feed Ava and hit a few 3s anyway.

Edit- I'm also thinking we have some portal kids in the works already. Curious what we bring in.

What happens to all the RAYGUN Addie Deal T-shirts now? ..and the Iowa men's 2026 Final Four caps and T-shirts, for that matter. Were the latter all just destroyed?

Easy- defense. And no I am not related. You get mad because I knock down rumor mill crap. FYI- I’ve been watching wbb regularly since 2002-2003. First off was in the pep band. I was effectively relegated to the wbb gigs and enjoyed it.

I could argue Remmerde was as a big a name back in the day. We use to joke about AIRBAG and Iowa WBB ACL’s. One year 3 or 4 players with tears. This was like a decade long issue. Those teams would bounce around, would have a pop up season. Then around, 2015 Bluder really seemed to find herself. Bluder had lots of years to experiment and figure it out. By all standards Jan has done amazing for her 1st 2 years.
Amazing?

I’m with you. Get a dynamic athletic shooting guard in the portal for your starting 2g and that lineup has the potential to be excellent.

Deal just did not play very well this year, although she showed some nice flashes. Too bad she’s leaving, but I think spinning this into a huge narrative about Jan’s coaching abilities and the perception of the program is a bit much. Guard play was a weakness this year. Jan did a nice job winning with what she had. You don’t run an offense based on what will make certain players happy, you run it based on what will help you win. If Deal had been ready to contribute more, things might have been different, but she wasn’t. That’s nobody’s fault, just the way it worked out

For all the talk about how Addie's decision to portal will hurt the narrative about Iowa women's basketball I'll say the quiet part out loud. With Hannah, and Jada graduating, and Kennise hitting the portal it is more important for Jan to keep Journey and CC than Addie (though I am disappointed to see her leave).

Regarding Emily...what did the team do in the pre season that couldn't have been addressed if it was known she was a bit reckless or undisciplined?

The shiit hit the fan based on one game?
Didn't the staff watch ER's tape from games last year to know what they were getting?
Maybe she wasn't a "cultural" fit?😁😁😁

This is the life we all need to get used to with NIL.
Still, pretty crazy here. Some ;posters saying she's no l.oss, and then saying she'll probably end up at UCLA? Oh. okay. She supposedly won't be good enough to play a big role here, but she'd do well at a school that drilled us by an average score of 35 points? They'll have a new roster, but Close will be able to be VERY selective. If Deals that average, why would she bring her in?

Iowa’s releasing her while her dad is on twitter retweeting coach Stamp. Makes sense.
I said they could. Did not say they were asked. In today's climate, players can do whatever they want. Grass is not greener though. Transfars often find that out. Recruiting is still.just a date, not a marriage.
