It is possible. 64 teams go out of around 75 schools. Schools opt out and some may be DQ'ed for fighting.

That's ridiculous. I don't know the pros and cons well enough to make a case for going back to four classifications, but there has to be a better system than the current one.

One kid I was very impressed with Friday night. #11 Brandon Christian. he was playing qb but this pass week they moved him to wideout. Made several nice catches going up and getting the ball. This is where he needs to stay. Also only a soph..good job Brandon.
He did look very nice.

To FNL. I know I have traveled to MA to see my bulldogs play twice. Don't ever remember MA coming to Albemarle????
Buddy I could only find twice also but could only go back to 2007 on Maxprep. 2007 y;all came to Mount Airy and beat us 34 to 23 and 2010 y'all beat us here 38 - 14... 2008 We won the state Champion beating WIlliamston 37 to 14 in 2009 and lost to Wallace Rose Hilll 38 to 37 in 2009. WRH instead of going for the tie with time running out or over time one they went for 2 to win 38 - 37 and we were the state runner up.

Actually you two I got an answer for you; just took a little bit of detective work.

Mount Airy has gone to Alby and played before but it's been ages since the last time. In 2000 MA got Alby in the first round during Holder's 2nd season there and they had to go down there. MA was 7-4 and Alby was 7-3 due to not having a full schedule and Alby won by 22; 47-25. They lasted until round 3 that year.

The next season was the year they scored points at will over people and beat East Surry in Pilot to win the 1AA west before winning the title.

That was the year AHS got drilled by West Wilkes in the season opener. One of the worst losses under Gaster. Could be wrong but I think WW went undefeated that year, at least in the regular season. I remember being shocked by that loss.

AHS lost to Cummings that year in the playoffs, and then lost only two games over the next four seasons, both to Thomasville.

Remember 2009 game very well. We were playing sw onslow in the second game that day in Winston..Got there early and watched second half of MA WRH game. Great ball game. We proceded to destroy SW Onslow in the second game.

West Wilkes lost two close regular season games and was thrashed in the first round by an average Lincolnton team which received an equally bad defeat in round two. One of those "how did that happen" games not so much the loss but the score differential.

Funny story about the WW game. Me and my buddy Bluebones went up for the game with high expectations. After all we had TA Mclendon. What else would we need. On his first carry a linebacker for WW picked TA up and "body slamed him". Lol. I looked at bones and he looked at me and we both said holy s$it. They just destroyed us that day....

Im thinking. That WW got beat in the reg season by Mt.Airy in a nonconferene game by like 3 pts. That same WW team lost to N. Rowan in the 3rd or 4th rd in the 2a playoffs. This was when all playoffs were not subdivided. WW was a ridiculously strong and disciplined team in the early 2000's. That all black and those Harley's brought nightmares to the feeble at heart, and then they would HIT U...LOL

That is the 2001 season. They lost by a point in the second round to North Rowan. This is the first season of sub divided playoffs for 1A. All classifications subdivided in 2002.

West Wilkes lost to West Iredell and Forbush in the 2000 regular season. First round of the playoffs Lincolnton beat them by over 30.

Have to agree with you about Brandon Christian and was also impressed with Julius Smith who is the grandson of a former Bulldog standout in football and basketball who is also named Julius Smith. Julius was one of the first African American to play football at Albemarle in the 60's and was the first to play basketball at Albemarle. Considering their youth I saw a lot that they can build on for the future. Hopefully we can keep the same head coach for more than a year and start to build some stability again with the football program. Go Dogs!
